Already a rule.
Quote:So much so that BAF are even asking their members to also join an opposing faction just so they have someone to fight and RP with! I personally don't think that members of 1 faction should be able to join a directly opposed one. I know everyone will scream "ROLEPLAY" but i say *******s to that.
That is not why I did that. See what Del said. Thats why some people THOUGHT I did that.
Quote: How about a little bit of good old fashioned competitiveness for a change? I have a Kusari pilot and i'd be far less inclined to fight Kusari enemies knowing that most of em also belong to my faction too. Whats the bloody point? There is also a conflict of interests involved in being a member of 2 directly opposed factions.
Wrong. That is not the Disco way of doing things. If you think that way, you need to come around to our way of thinking. Sometimes, I actually fight harder as KNF, because I realize some might think I have a conflict of interest. See you in space, fighting with, OR against you.
Quote:3) Military groups inparticular are structured and this should be implemented in game. Official factions should be given a member limit and then submit a makeup of their faction to admin that they must stick to when recruiting with that member limit in mind. High command, fighter wing, bomber wing etc, all with assigned member slots to be filled. When the slots are filled recruitment stops.
This is a level of Admin control of factions that is neither desirable nor possible. Each faction does it their own way. Think its called "freedom".
Quote:If you want to recruit another member then kick an innactive player or one who you feel would be better replaced by your aspiring applicant. Far more realistic in my mind than allowing factions to recruit anyone just 'cos they write a good story on the forums.
Kicking inactive players doesn't happen often. There are lots of RL reasons to be inactive temporarily. And the existence of timezones and different schedules makes it hard to determine who really is inactive.
Quote:Try conducting interviews ingame in future and then see how many people you would recruit. I gurantee it would not be the same.
I have done both about 100 times and both work. How many people have you recruited into a faction? Thought so.
Quote:4) Has anyone noticed how often it appears that when there are plenty of pirates in the lanes there are not many police or military around? And vice versa ofcourse! Dont really need to make much more of a point of that as its obvious why. This goes hand in hand with my opposing membership objection above. I would suggest that lawful players be allowed unlawful characters only in areas of influence that are separate.
Every single player on this server has a pirate and we all switch at tea time. You got us.
In closing, you have probably never run a faction, nor belonged to one, but presume to tell us how we should run ours and how we should be regulated.
In that spirit, because I am uniquely unqualified to do so, I will now write a critique of the Russian federal system of government and send it to Vladimir Putin. I am sure he will appreciate it as much as I have your input.
My sarcastic tone, such as it is, is a direct consequence of your initial post on this thread which appears to criticise my directions regarding the BAF. Your way of looking at things is utterly wrong, and I sincerely hope you come around.
ON topic...the biggest problem with denying people the right to multifaction, from my point of view, is that it results in RP animosity being taken OoRP.
As has been pointed out before, the Corsair/Outcast/Bounty Hunter relationships are very tense, because a lot of people have never experienced the other point of view.
The other major bonus in people having characters on both sides is that, when it comes to a fight, people can switch characters to make it even. However, with all forms of RP, one should never use OoRP knowledge to gain an advantage.
While I don't have any truly opposing characters (save for my Order and Bounty Hunter), I still find that working with those who I would otherwise be working against makes me respect them much more as people, rather than targets, and makes me much less inclined to get worked up over my loss in a fight.

*grins* True that. I ran around on my LPI and spotted that some Xenos were online after they joined in the fight. After the dust settled they were dead and I was still alive.
Solution? Log out my LPI and login my Xeno to go run with them for a while.
But! Derkylos hit the nail that I was about to try for right on the head. One of the things that keeps us going as a community is branching out. We can be a pretty inbred lot, but it really cuts down on animosity.
For example, if the Xenos and the LN had zero out of cockpit interaction a long stream of losses/etc might eventually lead to bad feelings. This was witnessed rather poignantly between ourselves and the LSF at one point, actually. But now when I'm ganked by David Hale I know exactly who that jerk is and I can laugh about it with him afterwards, especially when we both login characters Z and fly together.
Reduction in being worked up over a fight, as Derk so poignantly put it, is really the medicine we can supply ourselves with to keep things happy and going.
For example of how it can go wrong, see any thread where Dab and Mjolnir are both participating:lol:
A fixed cap on factions is a bad idea. Take it from someone running a faction that everyone seems to want a piece of these days. I don't actively recruit -- the Congress just does its thing, many of our members are mature individuals and stellar roleplayers, and as a result people come and want in. Despite my piss-poor job of running the thing, even.
I don't want to tell people to shove off, we're full thank you very much; people want to play as a Junker in a faction? We're always open.
In response to Dieters rather stroppy and childish reply. Thanks for your sarcasm mate it was much appreciated, I am always amused by it no matter what form it takes. If you want to take offense at me using the BAF as an example then do so, obviously I touched a nerve there. I did however just use your faction as an example and (unlike your reply) it was meant in no way as an attack of any kind. Some of my initial points have more or less been argued out here and my view has changed considerably since making that post. You cannot deny however that BAF has stopped recruiting because of too many members and also that some of your members were less than willing to join an opposing faction for various reasons, including the ones I listed.
As far as I am concerned the discussion is closed, I was not intending to continue it this morning until I saw you had thrown your toy out of the pram!
If you feel the need to insult me further mate then take it off the forums. In fact I'll just send you my address and you can come and do it in person if you feel up to it. I would of expected a less confrontational and inflammatroy reply from someone who holds your position here. Lead by example etc etc.
