Change the Server Name to Discovery Roleplaying 24/7

Alright, I don't know if this is possible, or whether or not anyone will listen to this, however, I do believe the main cause of OoRP is because people are simply ignorant of the fact that this is an RP server. In light of this, I motion to raise this petition to the powers that be as well as collect statistical data as to why OoRP exists on the server.

As such, I raise this poll in General Discussion, and hope it's possible and that I'm not assuming too much power or whatnot.

I'm not sure if that's the main cause, but I do think that something like that can only have positive effects. As such, I am in full agreement with such action. At worst, it seems the name is longer, at best, it improves some level of roleplaying.

I think there is more than enough evidence both on the server and on these forums that this is a roleplaying server, even if a person can not take this away from the 'RP' part in the server name.

Not really a change of server name, more a change is needed in attitude from mostly independent and factionless players, especially those who have little or no understanding of the language used on the forums and server.

As you have quite rightly highlighted, the majority of ooRP players are unaware of the forums and are generally ignorant - intentionally or unintentionally - of the interaction between NPC and associated player factions, something which I don't believe comes from not fully displaying 'Roleplaying' in the server title.

Personally, I am indifferent about the name being changed, if it gives people some extra info about the precise nature of the server, then by all means go for it.

What seems to be needed is more education in pointing players towards the forums and receiving info and help from factions ingame where possible. Of course, what is also needed is a nice big slice of willingness from any given player to adhere to roleplaying rules and regulations, no matter how much help is on offer.

I can see how that lengthening the name might enlighten some people, but I doubt it would really help. To play on the server, people have to visit the website/forum anyways so that they can download the mod. When you play, there are constantly console messages concerning the forums, RP, and the mod. I don't care if the name gets changed, I just don't think that it'll do anything.

I see no downsides to this at all, and only one problem. Maybe there is a character limit, which is why it's currently "Discovery RP 24/7".

If it is possible though, than I think the little boost in clarification will do nothing but good for the RP on the server. Even if it is a minuscule amount.



Also, everyone knows RP = Really Pwnzor.

All in all, I think it may help a little, but probably not enough to make a huge difference.

Who knows, maybe calling it "Frog blast the vent core" might keep the OORP people away. Then again, it would probably make it worse...

That's the point.
The people that don't know that RP means roleplaying probably aren't interested in roleplaying, and even less a roleplaying server. Clearly stating that it is a roleplaying server will let those people know, before they get on and "lol wut r u talking about?" when someone tries to talk to them.
