It's not just spammers, it's missiles in general. Even when fired sparingly, they are just too accurate especially when launched at around 300m. CDs do help, against spammers. Not against someone who randomly fires them. Using missiles well is much easier than using guns well. And when they are not spammed, but varied a bit, they are pretty much impossible to dodge.
Combine the quotes.
Possibly give fighter missiles the same weakness.
An increase in speed making them more effective at 500-750, but too fast to reliably track a target within 500.
Though, on the other side of that arguement is those fighters who have a Sidewinder, Cannonball, Para, Firestalker, and two guns. Or in the case of a Raven Claw, 4 guns.

Missles too acurate.They are good enough for me to use one over a gun on my bomber! its just the killing power is too high for what they give you. I go pew pew for 15 mins to drain shields, or go BOOM shelds down the sidewinder then drills half the hull. no skill at all.

Opinions are generally based on personal experiences as much as they are based on fact. And the fact that this happens to more than just one person surely proves that there is some kind of problem.
Personally I play Freelancer fun, and I find nothing fun about listening to the Incoming missile message like its' a broken record until you die. There are methods to counter them, yes. Thank you. They have already been pointed out. But there are still some people out there who are yet to obtain this skill set... and the skills required to counter missiles is far greater than the skill required to use them.
Missiles are not overpowered. They have (at least did in 4.84.. I haven't checked it out for 4.85 yet...) roughly the same DPS as a class 9 gun. That is of course, assuming both parties have 100% accuracy. In fact, if everyone were to start using missiles, there would be no problem here, and everyone would be equal. It is only our biased opinion against missiles, really, that this argument exists.
So what is it that makes us want to nerf missiles? Statistically, their accuracy is by large an advantage. But it is not like missiles are restricted. Anyone can use them. So you to can gain that advantage, not that it will be once everyone starts using them. That seems to be the current trend of things. For me, it's playing style. I get more fun from using only guns and an MR or SNAC. And missiles restrict this playing style. But if we nerf missiles, we also restrict the playing style of those who enjoy using missiles.
..Just felt like posting from a different perspective. I am still all for missiles recieving a nerf... but I realise that is just my biased opinion.
Yeah, I think the only reason that the opinion has such prevalence is because of the perceived 'cheapness' of kills acquired with missiles.
One thing though, Mjolnir you said the train CDs ability to destroy missiles was nerfed? Why, exactly? 70 CDs against 140 missiles was never a fair fight anyway, and now missiles are better and TCDs are worse?

Please, go check that in 4.85. Missile damage was upped a lot. Most guns were upped as well (to 4.84 Kraken level), but nowhere near the explosives buff.
About the TCDs... they were limited to ~600 speed in 4.84, now they go their listed speed, that means quite faster (I can't remember the exact value). That makes them unable to track in a lot of cases. This didn't affect normal missiles, because they never reached such speeds.
Coming from someone who flies with and without missiles, I think they're fine. Click the CMs on and they do work. Train CDs make it even worse for the missile user, not to mention if he's spamming you can just go evasive and make him waste his ammo, leaving him with less guns than you, and most likely flustered and rushed as well.
And hey, I had a good fight against a DW the other day before he spammed mines and killed himself. If it can give those guys enough of an edge to catch me off guard and do some damage, the change is good.
How about making the missile launchers more easily destructible? Weaken the missile launchers, so that a player could target the missile launchers once shields were downed. The other day, while fighting a gunboat in my VHF, I was swarmed with missiles. I attempted to sub target the launch equipment without any success...it would have been a good tactic.
