I see your point Kuraine, for me though I've always understood the Gaians to not want anyone to do anything that changes a planet from it's natural state. Whether dead, living, earth like, whatever it may be.
I could be wrong as I've never done that much research on Gaian "operating procedures", but that's the impression I got so it always made sense to me why they didn't like Planetform.
Yeah that's the impression I got too, which is the imo the farmer's alliance thing makes no sense. Agriculture is barely behind industry for wrecking planets.
I do not know if this was already stated, but Samura profited heavily from the farming operations on Kyushu. It was one of their flagships until Synth Foods came around and ruined it all. That is why they support the FA and the FA does their dirty work, because they want the Farmers back farming.
Also, just because the FA are allies with Samura doesn't mean that we can't be allies with Gaians. I believe this has also been stated before.
Edited to add: Also, the FA does not condone farming that destroys planets, that's Synth Foods. We have been farming the same soil for centuries, in RP.
"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."
' Wrote:You know, something I never quite understood about the Gaians is this: Why do they care about Planetform actually changing dead planets into living ones? After all, Harris was a dead planet before it was decided to terraform it. Sure, it had an atmosphere, but it had no lifeforms on it whatsoever. Ayr, Atka and California Minor have no lifeforms on them, although again they did/do have an atmosphere. I never really saw the whole big deal about hating Planetform for that. It'd be identical to them hating planetform for taking a rocky planet like our moon and turning it into a Gaia. It would make no sense.
Gaians are opposed to terraforming because it is unnatural. Simple as that.
From a Gaian POV, if a dead lifeless rock has the potential to support life, then it will do so naturally & in it's own time.
The big deal is, humans will never be smart enough to play god. they will never be able to take into account every single natural action/reaction in platetary evolution & the smallest human error in planning the climate, landmass, ect. creates an accelerated domino effect of failure in the planets DNA itself.
& btw, if we could turn our moon into a Gaia-like planet, it would be an evolutionary disaster for the earth & kill us all off as terraforming the moon would break the earth's food chain in countless ways.
Other things to keep in mind: The only 'side' Gaians are really on is the side of nature. They are not natiionalistic & they don't do things 'for the good of the people' in the stereotypical sense. They are killers with a cause & have a political lobby that actively wins a portion of the Bretonian peoples hearts & minds.

Hearts and minds aren't won by people that kill for something other than people, I'm afraid. Murdering people (and murder is what it is) so that a lifeless rock can decide its own future will only receive public outrage.
Besides, turning the moon into a Gaia would be awesome. We've already screwed the food chain, after all.

The Gaians, however, would likely attack Samura in Leeds, seeing as they've taken a BMM base and are using it in just the same fashion.
Marburg, I am curious, what's your two cents on the Gaians being portrayed as having jumped into bed with the Kusari in regards to the war?
I mean, every time I fly through Leeds these days there's some people there ranting about how the Gaians just can't wait for the Emperor to be marching through and people who spout 'chap' and 'tally ho' and 'pip pip' being a thing of the past.
It seems to, as Blunt obliquely pointed out, something that would put the greenfront in a bit of disfavor with the general populace. Giving the nod to a bunch of folks who reckon that maybe we could clean up house a bit and do a little shooting to make it happen is one thing when you're choking on smog in 'ol Leeds. It's another thing when they're passing around the support cup whilst the KNF is fighting a shooting war above your heads and those environmentalist buggers are shooting up the hypothetical good guys in favor of the invading masses.
Slightly off topic I'm sure.
((Edit: Samura employs genetic engineering in the forming of its crops. Another interesting note in the face of Gaian sensibilities. Not exactly up there with the Corsairs having nuked Cork until it's a glowing ball of hell death on the "lol wut and you guys are still cool?" meter, but still worth noting.))

Maybe I'm biased because I'm a chemist, and the entire "natural" food arguments bug me- but genetic engineering could be as simple as cross-breading two plants. The breading of let's say a rice crop with another plant that naturally endures the harsh conditions of kyushu in order to make a "super rice crop" that is able to grow on kyushu. That is how I saw the so called "OMG SCIENTISTS GENETIC ENGINEERING THE CROPS WILL COME ALIVE AND EAT US! WE ARE NOW THE FOOD TO MY FOOD! CALL THE KNF OUT OF LEEDS!"
Genetic engineering isn't always exactly the "I'm adding this nucleotide here, in order for it to grow an extra arm"

It would still piss off Gaian extremists. Plus, they terraform planets too. I doubt its all horticulture. And didn't Samura used to trade with Planetform before the war?
