It may be J because it stands for "Jump" as in Gate Jump.
I could be a redundant key map from when you had to use somthing other than Dock to use Gates and Holes in a beta version or somthing.
Maybe to transmit the gate access codes that Juni gives you before they decided that it would be anoying to have to do it at every gate.

I hit it totally randomly (though I am pretty sure the keys are grouped on the left side of keyboard) when I first started online play. I can kick myself because I started to write it down and didn't at the time (it was a two years back).
If this could be found would be really interesting. Anyone have any clues?
This isn't imagined or remembered incorrectly, it is an actual macro. I was surprised and went back to the manual and found no mention of it and it was when I was still referring to instructions to set controls.
I just got that function, but dunno how.
I wrote on a random server one time: "Which is the best shield combo atm ?" Taht was a year ago.
I activate this random text every day, various chats and tried to figoured out which button is the trigger, but cant find it.
Next time ill try to locate harder.:D
This thread does get me thinking, though. Has anyone gone through and cataloged which items in UserKeyMap.ini actually do anything?
Also, for reference, F4 is 115, not 74. 74 is definitely J.
It seems that the numbers follow the ASCII standard to a point, but there are some mappings that don't fit into the ASCII listing, particularly those that refer to lowercase letters and symbols that you would need to press the Shift key to access on a normal keyboard. For example, F4 is 115, which is "s" on the ASCII chart.
Maybe I'll start a new thread on this on one of the other boards. I'm guessing Freelancer Modding would be best. Or I might just forget it and get back to playing the game...
I neglected in my original posts to clearly specify it was a "text" macro--not an audio response. Something like "Hello pilot" as I recall. This is a legitimate grave dig as I would still like the answer and the question was never resolved.
