' Wrote:First off, you should realy have asked people wether they wanted to be into it. When I saw it pop up in the middle offa 1-1 against an Osiris, I wasn't 'lolzing'. Secondly, most Discovery members get Skype after a month or so of being on it. So, I don't realy think this would help the 'new blood', unless they know of it via via.
Sorry about that, I haven't added a single person to the chat, I will instruct everyone else to not add anyone in the future.
Here are the guidelines I have created for the channel by the way:
This chat conforms to the guidelines set forth by the Discovery Forums. Foul or course language, threats, flames and insults are not permitted. Off-topic chatter is tolerated but will stop if someone is requesting help. Discussion of certain software that allows players to bypass in game discovery is not permitted. This is not a spam channel do not add anyone to it unless they request to be added.
Well so far everything is going pretty well in the assistance channel. Some respected members of the community have come and offered their help and I have made some of them hosts so hopefully there will almost always be someone on with admin powers to keep everything running smoothly, although so far this hasnt been very necessary. The current hosts are:
Myself
Hellfire0
Swift
Finn Aiden
So far we have been able to provide answers to a wide variety of questions ranging from how to run Freelancer in windowed mode to looking over and giving advice on preliminary versions of faction proposals to ship and equipment choices. I think new members stand to learn a lot here without even asking questions, although you will have to wait until someone else does, which is not every moment.
In case anyone is curious the disco help chat is alive and stronger than ever. We currently have 14 members, some new players, a lot of veterans. In addition to providing assistance with in game matters we have also started explaining things that have happened on the forums and explaining some of the history of the community.
I am using the channel to offer lucrative jobs for newer players in supporting roles of our DSE mining operations. If you are still learning the walks of Discovery, not wanting to comit yourself to a faction but still interested in partaking in some friendly faction events, the Disco Help channel is the place to be!
[A testimonial of sorts for something brilliant that needs some publicity]
As a neophyte to this particular forum, I undertook the daunting task of attempting to fit into it all and figure it out by myself. Needless to say, or perhaps I already said it, this was indeed a daunting task.
Luckily for me, some official-looking fellow posted on my introduction thread and pointed me to something brilliant of his own creation - the Skype Discovery Assistance Channel. I was actually rather surprised to find so few people actually using it, as it was a rather good idea, I found. They helped me with my problems that I had. Which were, namely, the facts that Freelancer wouldn't work and I didn't know anything at all about Discovery.
Both were soon remedied, and I started playing the game.
At this point, many other questions raised themselves, and I'm afraid that I kept the lot of the fellow in the help channel on their toes asking what must have seemed like silly questions about the game. Through it all, though, I learned a lot about the game, how it works, how to play, and what it is like. I've also interfaced into the community, or a small part of it, at least, through the channel. You can see that I haven't posted on the forums an incredible amount - but despite this, I've already found my place (or what seems like it) here and I'm quite comfortably settled at the moment, except for this hiatus I'm supposed to be on at the moment...
Curse incidental wireless.
But, as closing remarks:
This channel is almost a must-join for any new member to this community.
This channel can help you meet people without using the forums.
The people in this channel are very knowledgeable and can solve most of your "wut can tehy actualy do tat?" questions with ease. Or at least mine, I'm sure yours will look much more intelligent than that.
This channel can also waste your time in a most satisfactory way.
