Never something I have claimed... I think they should have better kit, and I think the Phantoms should have better kit, simply because they -are- special factions. They are the big bad enemies. People should crap their pants when they see Keepers or Phantoms.
Look at it objectively.
The Assassin: I'd rather fly an RT or Sabre.
The Bomber: Gives me no greater advantage than the civvy bomber.
The LF: Hardly used and impractical in most situations.
The Guns: If I could I'd put Black Widows on all my ships, they just feel -right-.
The Missiles: Identical stats with the disadvantage of not being able to loot ammo during a fight.
Edit: Martin, explain to me why it was then that I ended up taking on four keepers and a wilde in my [LN] Guardian, and didn't feel any more intimidated than if I were fighting rogues, outcasts or xenos.
"Missiles are for the weak" perhaps your joke radar is broken...
I personally find it fun to attack enemies who have superiour equipment. Special factions such as that are there to be feared. This is my point. If you're concerned by that realy, then you'd nerf the living hell out of the liberator (far too small for how fast it is) and you wouldn't even have considered making the RC how it is now (Insanely hard to hit, beleive me I've tried, and very 'skittery' in the right hands). Not to mention the phantom guns.
I've fought both with and against the nomads on numerous occasions. Sure, the nomad bomber is probably my favourite ship in the game, however it only just feels a little bit nicer than the civvy bomber to me. Nomads are not invincible.
Tone down the pooslinging please. And the fearmongering, and the flaming. Now.
The only thing I'm adding to this is that the Humans beat the Nomads via a deus ex machiana prinicipal. "oh, fly this near that and they all die? Cool". The ending of the game (and it is a game, so having the humans (and our hero) lose is unthinkable) was very rushed and poorly thought out. I've thought so since I played it years ago.
' Wrote:Again, why are we supposed to be frightened/terrified of nomads? We beat them. With a handful of men, while 99.99% of Sirius didn't even notice.
I don't see why you keep bringing that point up. If you would have actualy propperly read the Lore we releashed a while ago, you would have known by now that the Nomads during the Nomad war of the SP were just stretching their legs, yawning and going ***Oh, let's build a city. Oh bugger, here are the HUmans! Daaaamn...They opened up the hypergate too soon..***. The current Nomads have already recovered from the war and have actualy expanded. Maybe you missed the shiny city in the middle of the Nineveh cloud in Iota

Right, this ends any conversation I'm about to have with you. But no I won't go swearing and calling you the right names.
I made 2 polls about how to limit them before doing any changes. Both on dev forum and here (http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?...30652&st=0) . There I argued that they should be limited and I was flamed at from different sides that "I'm sore looser trying to limit others".
Now you tell me this.
*sets Titan on ignore*
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
What I'll say is that, if the consensus from the nomad lore, which was approved by Igiss, defines the Nomads as still more technologically advanced than the humans, then their equipment and ships should stay slightly more powerful than human ships.
If it makes sense in RP.
As for fair play and balance, there's where the factor of constantly being overpowered might be mentioned. Because with "normal" factions, there's an "oorp" balance kept so that the gaming experience and fun, which is one of the priorities of course, is kept at a certain level.
With nomad characters being on the short end of the stick when it comes to numbers, for the sake of that oorp balance, RP does not interfere a bit.

It does make quite the RP sence. I mean, the Nomads are a super duper Alien race created by an even more advanced alien race. One would think that makes them just that bit more strong, no?
That ends the "mature" discussion. Didn't expect a childish reaction to that, but I guess you never do know about people...*sigh*. I've stopped watching the dev forums a while ago, either way, explanations are better than rash decisions.
Anyhow, as for humans beating nomads, I think you should look at Mwerte's post. The nomads were winning until Trent pulled a "Look, magic I win button that they left right so we can reach it". So saying they're weaker than humans makes no sense. No one's asking the nomad gear to be overpowered to the point of not having fun, but a 2%-5% increase in power is a very normal thing. Considering even with the "overpowered" gear we get beat quite often as you have said, why such a fuss about having it?

Right, so, you lose the war, in an infant state, get majorly damaged, in said infant state, then 17 years later, you're a big nasty terrifying monster again. Beyond ignoring the fact that humans would be growing too, and from a much, much larger base, the common wisdom from humans will still be, no matter how nasty the nomads are, "Hey, we beat them already"
In the last 17 years since the war, humans have entered the most expansive period in all of Sirius history, I assert. Nomads may be expanding, and back to where they are..but you know what they've built? A couple of cities, a huge rock complex, a lair or two(Xerna was already there).
What have humans expanded into? I couldn't even begin to count. But I'll name some things.
A research facility. An orbital colony larger than the ring. Two shipyards, another shipyard....Newcastle. Canadian systems. Ellesmere. 100.
Honestly, the development and expansion to 100 alone more than competes with nomad growth.
EDIT:
Ok, yes, deus ex machina. Do we want to pull that from the canon? We could. But, if we don't remove that, and hence change...everything...the fact remains that they left their heart out where Trent could stab it. Stab it he did. That would hurt.

yes let's do this
Assasin - it has aimpoint and hitbox a bit off the ship, making it very strange to hit with guns, 7 guns and biggest powerplant
Bomber - similar to 4.84 catamaran in dodging, much smaller size than civ. bomber
LF - better many times in everything than any human LF, how much "useful" other LFs are is another matter
Guns
Black Widows: 585 damage/175 energy, 550 range (-20% damage vs Molecular shields, + 20% vs graviton)
Kraken (which sucks as we know): 556/126
Nomad Laser: 590 damage/120 energy, 700 range (same damage vs all)
Now on eagle the black widow power drain makes sure you can't fire much, on nomad ships you can fire Nomad Lasers forever.
