The LPI will still have to live with the history it has though, just as the LN does and all the other factions on the server.
Yes they have changed and did it a long time ago but their past has given them a reputation. One they clearly don't deserve now but since it is one that can easily stick in the head, it has lingered.
Maybe finding out why these new people are bashing the LPI could help too. If it's all unfounded then there must be a source somewhere that could do with shutting up but it needs to be found first.
People unfortunately (and fortunately) don't act the same in real life as on the internet. Everyone is a bully on the internet apparantly. I know I come across as far more arrogant or severe than I am in reality and those that talk to me in Skype etc will know that but it is so easy for people to hide behind a screename or an avatar and just spout rubbish.
This post probably has little purpose but if there's one thing I want someone who reads this to take from it, it's that bad reputations die hard and that the LPI will have to live with it as long as people still refer to it (Including this sorry >.<)
Well, the other day, I was on my LN, when a Police officer (Not ID'd, but CALLED himself a Police officer..) flying a civvie heavy fighter found a transport carrying cardi. He openly demanded, not 5k from Manhattan, IN SYSTEM CHAT, for a 500k BRIBE (Exact words) to allow the smuggler to go free.
It took almost an hour to finally get him to leave. At that was after we had shot him down. In this conflict, two [LN] members began shooting eachother for some reason that I forgot.
Wow.
As one of the people who may possibly have contributed to enrage Hack in such a way, I guess I first gotta apologize. Yes I did insult he LPI as being a useless bunch of morrons, but it was purely trying to play along with what I thought was your deliberate rp, and not meant ooc at real people in any way. I'll say it again, I love the LPI and deeply respect the people who do their rp, they are my favorite faction on this server. I think part of the probelm is that people who taunt the LPI, including myself and maybe the rogues, intend it a good-natured pun thinking it is taken as such.
Also I had no idea there was rivalry and ooc fights between LSF, LN, and LPI. If it is so I'm with the LPI all the way because they are the ones that show the signs of consistant RP.
If the LPI feels outnumbered, I'd say: put up a server rule forbidding unlawful cap ships (larger than GBs or even GBs) in house systems, unless allowed in a official RP event. And I think owning GBs wouldnt be oorp for a police force. Swat teams got tanks too. Unlawful forces are SUPOSED to be outnumbered in house systems, otherwise they wouldnt be unlawful but making the laws and running the place.
' Wrote:The latest lame attempt at flaming us was a donut commodity. Oh, it would make great role play. was the excuse. Yeah, for whom would it make great role play?
Really now? You think I'm flaming you? Hang out in NY for a day, even the LPI themselves talk about donuts, so you can't say it''s flaming for me to suggest a donut commodity when LPI members themselves go along. If you take that as a flame, get a thicker skin.
I've never had a problem with the LPI, not when they were less serious and not now. I never really played on my LPI char much but interacting with them has always been good.
I think partly the LPI get flak because they stop new player traders doing contraband or embargo running. These new players dont role-play back and just start flaming. I've seen it a few times, it's not easy roleplaying the law with people that refuse to roleplay back.
I've had no problems with the factionalized LPI that I've encountered. Playing police is a tough RP, both in terms of getting in character, and trying not to explode from all the frustration caused by the New York freakshow.
There's a lot of interesting issues with everything. Sure, the donut thing may have been a past LPI thing, but even so, it's an idea that's reflected in the real world. It's the same as Gaians and Hippies. Maybe you and Marburg should hang out? Stereotypes aren't going to go away anytime soon, unfortunately.
All the oorp complaining is not so fun though. The LPI has always been, in my experience, good at what they do. Of course, most of my characters' opinions of them wouldn't be very high (they do represent most things wrong with the police AND capitalism, all in one). I've had fun though, and it's nice they could do anything, considering the chaos in parts of Liberty.
I liked playing with the LPI on my Junkers so much, I joined the faction. I swear I'll write that introduction soon. :P
Individual officers play great cops; some are weatherbeaten and hardnosed Sam Spade types, others are bright-eyed Supercop types, others yet are burned out and crooked as a trailer park fence. The LPI-.:j:. relationship is highly enjoyable and enriches Liberty's environment.
The LPI is my favorite lawful faction to roleplay with, and possibly my favorite altogether when it comes to interacting on my Junkers.
Even when the LPI was a comedy show, they were fun. Nowadays, they're one of a precious few lawful factions that have any flavor to their RP. They take a role that is easy to autopilot and be bland at it, and make people that have to deal with them think. The players hold it up well, and the foundation is solid.
Kudos to the faction, and to the gents running it.
PS: You should see the crap Junkers take from the uneducated lawful types. "u r smuggler" and then "zomg oorp docking I report u" when docking on Sugarland with a load of Xenos and scrap metal. Stereotyping is everywhere, don't worry too much about it.
Right, i am an LPI but i'm going to look at this in an out of LPI Fashion.
From my experiences in liberty, the LPI is one of the rare factions in there that CAN RP, along with the navy. The other factions there(the combat oriented ones mind you) seem to be a waste, and just don't get it. Many a times i get told to leave liberty, so i do, but i still get gibbed on the way, even when i am actually leaving. I ran into a 8 bomber squadron of LN, they left me alone, today i ran into one 49th(or something) bomber who decided it would be more fun to instagib me, along with a few other indies around, while the only ship that actually had any drip of RP was the trading convoy passing by and an LPI officer.
The issue is that liberty is full of "less versed in RP" people who are just spoiling for a fight, thats where the issues arrive, the LPI is doing a hell of a job as they along with the LN are the only faction that i've never had a problem with, and have done some VERY good roleplay, and don't blow up a pirate trying to talk after 15 seconds.
Drop it with the LPI bashing, blame the other people in there who are much worse.
