It would just be a very inefficiently loaded-out battlecruiser.

Shooting eight Mini-Mortars would basically be shooting four Light Mortars, with some energy added on top. (as two Mini-Mortars would be slightly less efficient than Light Mortars, as Mortars and Heavy Mortars are.) That would be very terrible, as it would be using twice as many turrets to do basically the same DPS. I doubt battlecruisers could even fire eight of them.

Heaven help us, they're possibly going to make cruisers the best ship in the game.



Well, obviously not that good.
But... they might make them a bit more popular.

BS needs that gun. BS turret should has slow re-fire and big damage, not firing 2 shots per second with a higher dps than Heavy Mortar or Mortar.

put that in a simpler way: BS needs a gun that has slow refire with good dps, not machine gun XL (extra large) version.

Battleships have a very large amount of flexibility at the moment.
I don't really think that they need any more guns. If you want a slower gun that hits harder, there's the Cerberus.

This is a thread about Cruisers, and how we might add another gun to give them a good degree of flexibility and efficacy in fights against smaller ships - because, as it stands, people regard the smaller cruisers as garbage. This is mainly because the cruiser mainstay (the Light Mortar) drains their energy so much. Mini-Mortar would fix that nicely.

I dont want those small guns dominates the battleship's weapon setup, i want to see heavy weaponry to be effective, not use crap load of energy and does way worse than those small guns.

and yea, sure, Mini-Mortar for Cruiser. but all im saying it's just BS needs something similar on their heavy weaponry category

Once more, compare the light mortar and battle razor:

Light Mortar
Hull Damage: 150,000
Shield Damage: 75,000
Energy Usage: 1,000,000
Projectile Speed: 600m/s
Weapon Range: 4,020m
Refire Rate: 0.25

Damage Efficiency (damage dealt per energy used): 0.15
Damage Dealt per Second: 37,500
Energy Used per Second: 250,000

Cruiser Battle Razor
Hull Damage: 35,000
Shield Damage: 17,500
Energy Usage: 350,000
Projectile Speed: 800m/s
Weapon Range: 1,520m
Refire Rate: 0.25

Damage Efficiency (damage dealt per energy used): 0.1
Damage Dealt per Second: 8,750
Energy Used per Second: 87,500

While the razor is slightly faster, a 200m/s speed difference is not enough to matter when trying to target small craft. The razor has a slightly easier time hitting gunships, but is still nearly impossible to reliably use against bombers or fighters. Likewise, it lacks the damage or efficiency to ever warrant it's use over the light mortar, even on smaller cruisers with low power capacity.

If the razor is to maintain it's current damage and efficiency rates, it should have the speed increased by another 200m/s, to 1000m/s projectile speed.

Otherwise, my suggestion would be to give it the same efficiency as the light mortar, by raising it's damage to suit. Thus, the new stats on the razor would be:

Cruiser Battle Razor
Hull Damage: 52,500 (+17,500 damage per shot)
Shield Damage: 26,250 (+8750 damage per shot)
Energy Usage: 350,000
Projectile Speed: 800m/s
Weapon Range: 1,520m
Refire Rate: 0.25

Damage Efficiency (damage dealt per energy used): 0.15
Damage Dealt per Second: 13,125
Energy Used per Second: 87,500

With the damage raised to maintain the same efficiency as a mortar, you still need to fire three razors to deal the damage a single mortar would, for similar levels of damage. On larger ships, the only thing this does is force you to use more weapon hardpoints for razors, whereas you could use two fewer hardpoints each by equipping mortars.

In essence, that simple change to damage turns the razor into the 'mini mortar' sprolf is asking for.

Um, lancer... battleships -already have- what sprolf is asking for, in the form of mortars vs heavy mortars. battleships are fine - hell, they're better than fine, they're one of the most well balanced shipclasses in the mod at the moment, able to set themselves up to take on any type of opponent equally well.

Yes, that's true.

The Mini-Mortar would have less of a drastic change in range, given that the overall range of the Light Mortar is shorter than that of the Heavy Mortar. So it's natural to assume that the distance in range between the Light Mortar and Mini-Mortar would also be smaller.

The Mini-Mortar would easily have a range within the 3k, if not above 3.4k.

extreme low dps, short range, fast projectile speed, it's a sniper rifle, for sniping GBs, not for BS vs BS
