Howcome their range is only 800, which is basicly that of a GB weapon ?
At first, I thought it was a balance things, keep larger ships anti-fighter guns short range so they have to reply on support, then I noticed that BS solaris have a VERY long range, like other BS guns.
So now I think someone just put in GB gun range by mistake.
Range and even firepower of the Solaris guns (from gunboat up to battleship) is rediculous,
that's already been discussed a lot and noticed, in particular when compared with the range
of regular fighter weapons, not to talk about SNAC/MR.
The antifighter/-bomber defense of caps lacks a lot, with exception of the flak-turrets (maybe).
But maybe we will be lucky and those antifighter weapons will become what they should be like
with the next update.

Yeah, currently solaris turrets are worthles, if your evading at all your hardly in range enuough to use them, and even then if your evading your not in turret mode to make use of them.
They (my thoughts) should do less damage per second than regular turrets of their class (but not as weak as they currently are) but have slightly longer range.

Actualy according to datastorm their range is 998.
That's the point of their short range. SuperNovas, MiniRazors, Nova Torps, they're all STANDOFF weapons. That's why you have those Razors on your cruiser. We have to dodge them as you dodge our (slower) SuperNova shots.
If we (bomber pilots) get too close to your ship, I'd certainly expect those Solaris cannon to shred my tin-can in seconds. One of the SCRA gunboats uses all 5 solaris and 1 GB Missile, and just murders fighters in it. I think there's even talk of putting 6-7 solaris turrets, and a couple battle razors/cruiser missiles onto one of the Cruisers for that reason alone.
Apologies to the cap drivers, but it's been discussed ad nauseum. If you want a Swiss Army cap, go play 4.84
Any decent fighter pilot can dodge a razor, theyre just not that fast, and only useful if you catch sheilds. its an anti-cap weapon for a reason.
Solaris is the only true anti-fighter wep that cruisers have. BS has flak, GB has missles, but cruiser solaris is simply not effective unless you SIT in range and use it (usualy in turret mode due to the short ranges and being buzzed all over), but doing that makes you SNAC food.
