I half expected you to say a group of 6 rheinland battleships could kill everything. Even though just yesterday a Liberty Fleet repelled 2/3's of that kind of force while only losing a single dreadnoughts.
Note my other post where I clearly say that a Mini Razor is by design an anti fighter weapon SLASH light anti-capital weapon. So yes, if you get enough of em you can do something to capitals. Six gunboats, Im sure can still be countered, its jsut a matter of not attacking with an insufficient force (EX: Dont send each ship one by one into the slaughter)
if we were serious about having bombers use real torpedos - we could move the shield HP to the outside of a ship. - that way a bomberpilot wouldn t simply target and click - but would ahve to SUB-target the shield ( which by that time is on the outer hull ) and then fire the torp. ( that also involves bomberpilots to switch their brain on and not attack from any angle - but figure out WHERE the shield is - so they attack from a good angle - one can differentiate capships even by the shield placement... military ships would have many guns to protect its shield HP ... more civi like s hips might have the shield HP in a place that is less protected by the warship guns )
the effect is that even a nova torp can damage the shield ( sounds easy - is easy - involves work on all the warship CMPs - but that "might" be worth it )
it would be worthless however - if we kept the supernova as a gun ....
would that be a "nerf"? certainly... the skill to kill a capship in a bomber would need to be higher, no doubt. - is it beneficial? - who knows... it might be - or it might not be. - but moving the HpShield on all capships to the outer hull is quickly done - i can do that in one afternoon.
Another fun thing to know about Explosives vs Shields is that even if the explosion hits the shield hardpoint. Its damage wont always be real great.
While you might have hit the thing with a 100k shield damage torp.
The Shield Hardpoint was only 15m within the explosion range.
Due to damage dropoff, you might only see 10k shield damage.

Now that would be interesting. Would it be possible to make the actual model of the shield bigger for capital ships, so its' possible for fighters/bombers to target and destroy it with their guns once the shield is down?

Now that's just cruel. I wouldn't put it passed some of the battleship captains of this server, though. But then again, shooting fish in a barrel is surprisingly hard.
yes it is possible to grow them to even the size of the spheres on star destroyers ( you know - the twin balls on top of the "T" thingy on these ships )
- the PROBLEM with that is - that its a model that is used on all ships ( fighters and warships ) - so.... its possible but not practical. - we can make the s hieldhardpoint and its hitbox as large as a light fighter on a battleship and it looks good.
too bad - the light fighter next to the battleship will fly with a shield as large as ... a light fighter, too.
i guess it is possible to make a new shield model - but that would involve a customized ShieldHardpoint on warships.
it would mean that its a bit more work - ( its basicly like adding a fully new weapon )
it would include adding the new hardpoints on all capships ( no biggie )
& modifying the shiparch or goods ( forgot which one ) - several hours of work to get it to work. - only worth it if the concept as such was sound and good. - to merely try it out and make half the disco community mad wouldn t be worth it. - no one likes nerfs, nither battleships, nor bombers.
edit: that only really includes destroyers and battleships - gunboats usually take the full damage from nova torps. - the idea of having a badass shield buster ( SN ) and a capable hull buster ( ammo based nova ) is easier and possibly better. - a shieldbusting SN cannot blow fighters up - but could finish even big shields off quickly ( assuming it was doing some 150.000 shield dam maybe ) - then finishing off a warship would still require some good planning and teamwork with a nova torp ( for that - the nova torp ammo could be cargobased and its ammolimits lifted - so that big bombers could load more ammo - which would favour those really BIG bombers ( fafnir, barghest etc. )

That is why, my friend, it is VERY Possible to make SEPARATE models with SEPARATE hitboxes.
All ships already have a Shield Hardpoint. They have to, even if its left placed inside the ship. Go make a model without one and equip a shield to the ship, the outcome is either a failed shield or a crash.
