There's shield hard-points, but then there is also weapon modification versus shield technology. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it possible to use 3 (or more) different types of each shield technology, (eg, graviton), and similarly for each weapon technology (eg, pulse)? More precisely I'm talking about WeaponModDB.INI which clearly defines these. Discrete differences can be made to certain guns, shields or in some cases even a specific vessel, by using this file (and whatever other file may need modifying accordingly). In fact, this may be where we're slightly out-of-date now...the original game does not need more than 3 shield techs, it didn't even use any form of transport-class shields or larger, but Discovery does. Personally, I think an overhaul of shields and weapon technology is needed, especially given that all capital weapons, torpedoes and missiles, not discluding the SNAC, do not have a technology defined (ie, they all do default damage regardless of shield type). So, with all this in mind, a bomber could have its own special kind of shield that is resistant to weapons fired by a certain class of vessel, but vulnerable to another. As for hull damage, there are no modifiers for this so the damage will be consistent, which may not help a lot of arguments put forth here.
When you started talking about weapon/shield type modifiers, I thought you will say SN can get some special category. You said special category for bomber shields...
I'd say that's the wrong end.
1) There are no special shields for bombers and it's completely unncessary to create them, not to mention that there is no free shield level for that currently.
2) It would need a LOT of work on all the weapons in the mod (as you said, overhauling it all)
P.S.: Could you -please- add some formatting to that post? It hurts.
Well indeed, the SN could have its own unique damage type and capitals could have their own unique shield type that is more vulnerable to this weapon than any other shield.
Formatting in what respect? A bit o' bold or slant, or you want some paragraphing?
After each and every one of these discussions I am more then convinced that in the end it all comes down to a PILOT'S SKILL.
Somebody's using missiles - CD them
Somebody's using mines - CD them, or, hmmmmm avoid them?
Somebody's using SNAC - I dunno, dodge?
Somebody has strong shields and armor - well, you have SNAC, torps, mini razors, missiles
Game is as close to balance perfection as possible.
It is not meant to be played alone and being in position to fight just about anyone. Hence the factions.
I could swear that each and every time someone buys a new type of vessel and they discover that there is an ''cure'' for those too, they start an topic like this one.
I've seen people doing amazing stuff with all sorts of vessels and I've seen people getting their a**es whooped even in BS with an Cap VIII.

I didn't notice. I've still been able to SNAC other bombers in my Falcata, Orchid and Barghest with the same efficiency as ever. Though I did notice sometimes the SNAC would simply refuse to fire, that would probably be the reason. I've never been good at hitting fighters, though.

Yesterday I watched as someone got fluke-snac'd by someone on their side in a furball. I mean, the chances were so slim, and the pilot who got tagged by it was doing nothing wrong. I should know, I was trying very hard to kill them.
Like you said, it was a fluke. I've done that too, I shot Jake in the side with a SNAC while he was jousting someone else. Exceptions to every rule, doesn't disprove my point. Or maybe I'm just crazy and the fact that I can dodge SNACs in a bomber is pure luck.

Basically, this means that fighters can slide all over you, abuse that cone of fire, and you can't do anything. Until they fy in a straight line.
That is what nerfed bombers. The fact they can't hit something that is miles away in the top corner of it's screen.
I believe you know for a fact that I very rarely fire an SN against anything but a capital ship, not just out of choice, but because i completely fail at it as I dont spend even a second of my time training to do so.
There have been maybe 3 occasions since 4.85's release that I've gotten a kill by SN, each time was off of either the first or second SN fired at the fighter who was dodging as he had 2-3 other fighters on him.
Whether or not your target is dodging makes no difference. If you have him within 500 range and lined up with a torp barrel, hes dead, no questions asked.
as for removing SNACs altoghter; why? are we gonna yel at caps, hoping they will explode?
the nova torp is now semi-usefull again so snac + N-topr give the bombers a good fighting chance, without being omni potent. leave it as it is.

I can only laugh at that statement. At the range of 500, the SN flies a second even from a thrusting bomber (i.e ship speed added). You mean you can precisely predict where a dodging fighter will be in the next second and hit that spot?

SNAC doesn't chase a dodging target around. It's also actually weak at hitting dodging targets... Things that the Dragonfly isn't. I also can't understand why would anyone use that argument on the Dragonfly.
