Yeh, Deaxy, your argument is full of holes to be honest. The mod is called Discovery. So what? On those basis rules should be made and proposals disgarded? If people want to discover, they'll discover, if people want to transfer their discovered map parts, they'll do that. The mod name shouldn't affect that.
Everything you all have said is what I was thinking. Except Dex. Who wants to explore the same systems over and over for every new character? I don't. Sound like most do not either. Besides, you do not have to use that command if you want to explore. So we can make it possible for everyone but Dex then.
Another thing. I understand for new character from an RP stand point there is no way they would know where jh, stations, etc are because they have not been there. However, if the new character has to purchase the map, that should take care of the RP issue. Make it 10 million or something. That should also hold down the abuse too.
some people on stations can give you locations of JHs and other stations.
why not make them tell you what's in the system you're currently in?
(of course for a fair price)
When I have a new ship for a character that has already been there, or I'm working on something similar to that, can I make a small suggestion?
Make sure that you start Freelancer windowed, so you can just click out of it - and have DataStorm up and running. Quick, painless, and easy. Oh, this ship doesn't know where that JH is? Even though it's the same character? No big deal - click on DataStorm, move your mouse over the quadrant, and lo - the coordinates appear.
Problem solved - without any kind of mapping program or code change.

As I've been playing FL since its first beta was released about 8 years ago
and also started at Disco already in 2006 I just find it annoying to "re-discover"
the same things again and again which I've already "explored" a thousand times
on many chars and servers.
Besides that the use of that command would still be optional - so noone has to use
it if he/she doesn't want to.

Thats what I do, 'cept with FL Companion. The JH coords are a little more precice given that it also shows the location corresponding to the grid. I find that the coords given in Datastorm are a little confusing.
