While I sympathise with the lack of a warning, you have in 2 months achieved a OSC liner, a Junker salvager, a LNS LABC, a Hacker Battleship, a Freelancer smuggler, and an Independent Miner? That's some hardcore work my friend. I do favour warnings before sanctions for a first offense, but how could you achieve that much without taking one minute to read your ID.
Sorry I understand your point, the immediate sanction was harsh but that is one hell of a ship range you collected in 2 months.

What I have listed now are my current ships, the cruiser (fwd gun type) was my very first cap ship, which I no longer have. It was my first attempt to the cap world in 4.85. Before all listed, I was in a dromedary/gull/alb./train/fighter as a trader in 4.84, to save for a basic cruiser purchased in 4.85. Learning from the cruiser the current listed is what I have achieved. I started in March about 4 month actually it has been.
The point is not specifically my mistakes, it what mistakes you are capable of making as a new comer that the rules and forums do not directly indicate. Newcomers such as myself have a steep learning curve to deal in. The environment is less than friendly at times, and the information is not readily there upfront to see. That is just a fraction of the issues I am trying to relay here. Not specifically my mistakes or how far I have gotten or not. Its what is represented/presented in its entirety here in disco. Please see the first submitted topic and the other topics submitted by the others who share in the viewpoint.

This.
Quote:We do NOT need rules that are applied in one situation and not in another (that's inconsistent). We need them to be easily understood so that even the new guy gets it without having to post question threads on rules (unambiguous and clear). We need the rules to be short ... the more text you use ... the more it opens itself up to interpretation (concise).
This. I'm tired of following rules on the forums, only to get flamed by 30 people in game saying that I have the wrong equipment/ship/ID/tag, even though its that lovely green colour on the forums. I also don't like following the rules, then getting told I'm using loopholes to achieve my own means.
Quote: I wholeheartedly expect this topic to be locked before it reaches it's 4th page. That's how discovery forums work.
*Jumps up and down* This, this this. My faction page was closed after a ton of flaming, and we never got the chance to prove ourselves.
Don't get me wrong, I love Discovery. I love the mod, some of the people, the environments, and the RP-way of playing. But my patience is getting real thin.
I am also fully expecting to get a post saying "You have no right to an opinion, you're too new" soon.
To be honest, I joined late 4.84 and I never had any problems problems where the server rules were involved, I can't relate to any of these claims of favouritism, so there must be something different I did than most of you complaining.
All I can remember I did when I was new was
A) Didn't rush head on and blindly into a large ship or an unusual RP situation, probably because I was inadvertently RPing back in Vanilla SP. (But I did go through a Zoner IDed, LPI tagged Adv. Train phase for about a week)
B) Joined an official faction right away, whose advise probably kept me out of trouble.
I can't relate to any of this so I'm sure you'll understand if you don't have my sympathy's.
When I first came arrived I broke the rules as well. I lost some things, but not much, the admins spared me despite not knowing me, probably because the rule I broke was not clearly defined.
I agree communication between the admins and the member could be better at times, but they keep pretty busy. I think they need secretaries, any volunteers?
I empathize but I dont think reducing the rules is an option. It is these rules that keep the quality of gameplay so high. If something need to be made more clear I am sure the admins would love to hear what and how to best do that.
Wow, can I go out on a limb and say that most of you have never been a moderator or admin in any capacity before?
It's tough and thankless (as evidenced by this thread) work and after doing it for a while, you get the feeling that everyone has got some complaint about everything. Too much, too little, he did this, he did that, wahh wahh I want the old version, etc. If you judge the admins' work by how many complaints they get and how loud it is, then the entire admin team should have quit just about when 4.85 was released. People will ALWAYS complain about whoever is "in power" and part of being in that position is learning to filter out most of the random complaints, and find the ones that are actually useful and will benefit the group.
When I joined the server, I spent the first two months mostly trading. In fact, I had just two characters: my trader, and my police-IFFed freelancer that just sort of wandered around. I played the game quietly, traded to get money, read the forums, and figured out how the server worked. THEN I started to get more involved, joined factions, started more intensive RP interactions, etc. And that is my secret to never getting in "trouble" with the rules: learn them first. Trading is a nice safe activity, and as long as you remember to not F1 and pay the pirates, you can't really go wrong there. And it provides a good "safe" environment from which to learn how the server works. Once you've gotten some experience, then you know what it takes to do whatever other things you want to do.

Making money and understanding the rules are two different things?

It sounds like your post is simply a "it did not happen to me so it did not happen" post and an attempt to brush off the issue whilst promoting factionalised values. (Apologies, but eh.)

I doubt they would accept secretaries.

If you want to.
People say how "thankless" it is but I think they ignore the threads which are set up to thank the Admins.
You never judge the Admins by complaints that are made. You judge the Admins based on how they handle complaints and how efficient they are at rectifying errors that are made, whether they do correct these mistakes and/or whether they simply ignore them.
Guys, Admins are not omnipotent or gods or anything.
While i do agree to make the rules more simple, Why not make an effort ourselves to welcome newbies? Some might not be the best learners but it takes about 5 minutes to point the guy in the right direction.
I'd prefer to wait for the inevitable rulebreak they will commit probably due to lack of knowledge and then spend my time writing a sanction instead.
I'm a horrible person really.
Wow I wouldn't like myself if I was like that. It does only take a few minutes to point people in the right direction but usually due to laziness/pride/elitism people avoid it.
There are those who do help though and I'm thankful towards them all:)
We cant blame only the admins, sure they have soem fault for their attitude sometimes(I want to let clear that I ve never been sanctioned, I speak only by what i read here), The community itself is full of flaming players who think they are the best around here.
Yesterday i helped a new guy set up his char, he needed some money and asked for 3mil right away, no introduction, greetings or anything only a "Can i get 3mil from you?" in Priv chat. He was lucky that I am not the flaming kind of guy and asked him for an explanation of why he needed the 3mil which I at the end gave him.
Today I helped another guy set his char that he had lost after 2 months of inactivity, he needed to get back on his feet and I offered to help and gave him 10mil.
My point is? Well these guys were lucky it was me and not some one else, I know a lot of people who call others noobs and flame them, insult them etc, juts because they ask for help. I could have been that guy and tell them to make their way by themselves instead of helping, like it happened to me at the beginning.
The rest of the community should provide help for new people and stop acting like idiots, now I'm not telling you to give money to newbs, that is completely evryones decision, but a good advice on how things work would be nice, instead of flaming adn killing evryones fun
