In another thread named Fun and Boring came up the idea
to start a list where every trader and pirate could sign in, if he so desires.
The sign in here will show to the public that they are trading/pirating not only for money, but in first case for the Fun, i.e. the RP.
Normally, one can suggest a good RP by the most faction-members. This list would give even the Indy-traders/pirates a good possibility to find their place under the stars.
In a case of encounter in space, such a list may be useful to sort out every side what to expect from the other, Powertrader/2millordie or people searching for the thrill of RP.
I suppose the list should only show the name of the character, not more.
One part should show the trading folks, the second part the pirates.
It would be done in alphabetical order, to speed up the time to find the desired name or not.
i try to make convoys to RP/talk....................But it never works. only thing i can do now is request docking... i dont see why no one can do my route... *sigh*
Ideally all players should be here for the RP not just for pvp. Having a list like this makes it very "us vs them". Will people treat those not on the list differently to those on the list?

...hmmm... i guess it will depend on how such a list will be used.
I think of it like this:
"Ah, this trader is a fat one... lets see... hmmm ...no, not listed. So, lets do it the old way.."
"Ups, one pirate is comming up... (checks list)... great, no need to run for life...lets have fun!"
A complete missunderstanding will be like this:
"hey, a trader again... noooo, not listed... lets pew-pew a bit..."
"Look at that pirate over there... not listed... i have to turn round and run like hell!"
I just don't get what people see in a difference between PvP and RP. To me, it's one thing.
PvP is in-RP, and I personally find statements such as "I hate PvP, I only RP" a bit falsely boastful.
I love to RP, and I fight when it makes sense to do so.
I'd call it all RP.

Thats exactly the point how the world functions, Sir.
And its totally ok to pirate for money... as long as the trader got his fun, too.
And this thread is not about PvP vs. RP ... there are enough of those threads, so far.
Its about how we could achieve saving people to be disappointed when they thought they would have a good RP-time, when the other side simply don't want it.
And its about giving Indies the same possibilitys to show they can do RP as good as any faction-members... I only try to give a few new thoughts....
Just make your own list based on experiences...I know which pirates I enjoy meeting and which will ruin the game for me...might not be the same as someone else's list, tho...

I'm kind of with Swift. Although to elaborate:
1.) I consider the tension of not knowing the purpose of an unidentified vessel to be part of the RP fun. I mean, if you're really playing a role, then that tension and/or anticipation is part of it because it's someone in that role would be going through those things.
2.) This is supposed to be an RP server. Like Swift said, there doesn't need to be any distinction between RP and PvP...... or power-trading for that matter. Those particular things are not mutually exclusive.
3.) The idea of a list might serve some people, but I think the idea of everyone formally or informally registering their name and purpose would dispel some of the RP immersion. Plus, the idea of blowing my cover doesn't strike me as advantageous no matter which role I was playing. I.E., it can change things when a trader knows that a known pirate is in the system, and vice versa. Sometimes that uncertainty can be fun to play with.
That said, as a trader, I did start my own list of ships to stay away from, but the way that I used it, it was more like a ship's log, rather than a public registration database.
Anywho, that's my 2-3 cents.
Edit:

As someone who primarily trades, I expect piracy attempts. Runs are boring without having to plan for contingencies. The idea that piracy is only good if the trader is having fun seems kind of impossible to a degree, no trader likes getting caught.
Also, I fail to see how making a list would enable an Indie to RP more on a server that requires RP. Not to mention that the list could potentially strip away part of the RP immersion. I have always traded independently, I don't see how that inherently affects RP. Just because someone isn't RPing in System chat doesn't mean anything right off. It's not like a trader or pirate is served by drawing attention to the fact they are up to..... whatever they are up to.
I.E., it would be unrealistic for a trader to enter a system and start transmitting over the open channel that they are a trader passing through with cargo. What trader in their right mind would advertise if they were avoiding pirates?
