Okay.. I've read enough to know Preon hasn't been around long enough to know enough about the Discovery 24/7 Server's history.
Before you jump on me about that, Preon, let me explain a few things.
a) Server Police has always left a bad taste in igiss' mouth, and frankly mine too. There are simply not enough "trustworthy" players that i would trust "superadmin" powers to.. at all. I trust very few people with superadmin powers, and even FEWER with remote access to the box.
b) faction rules. What you're proposeing will restrict the factions even more so. History on this server dictates that if we restrict it too much, those factions will rebel or even go about their own merry way and leave the community.
c) I don't think comparing Discovery to other "total conversion" mods is very fair to Discovery. We were never in the business to be compared.
Now for the cap ship business.
I kind of agree.. cap ships have become a dime a dozen in the game, but it adds an added level of role play. however, you are DEAD WRONG on the "role play" aspect of your arguements. Since you're comparing mods/games, let me direct you to EVE Online. I can take my character and and add it to a battleship and still be role playing.
I dont know about others, but you *ARE* flaming the mod. You may not think you are, but it sure as hell is coming across as flaming to me.
Now, Discovery 24/7 Is *NOT* the epitone of the mod. There are other mods that have differnt rules, different set ups. Some like total conversion rules. Some not. Stop trying to say we should go this route, as what we've been doing as of late has worked very well for us.

I won't post again.

I for one would consider that a loss to the community. I'm possibly a bit more "neophilic" than the folk who've responded to your ideas; and I don't feel threatened by the suggestions you've made. However, as with all communities, we tend to be protective of our status quo. Igiss' "wunderkind" Mod has been a boon, and sometimes a bane; and may indeed have a few warts; but we've grown to accept them.
It would be my sincere hope that you would continue to be involved with our community, both in-game and on the forums. From one convoluted, irritating, aneristic player to another: hang in there.
And @ Diablo: Thanks for the kind words. It just tickles me no end that you find my "Malisms" irritating. Means I'm doing my job as set forth by the Goddess.
Hey, without irritation and chaos sometimes, the world gets too boring...I was finally stimulated again after sometime.
:D

And @ Preon...
Even though I think that you are flaming the Mod, do not feel pressured to silence yourself...Just sit back, relax, and let it flow...I think Mal can help you on this one.

I agree on these points, I don't like the idea of server police or such things. As for rebelling factions, to me, that seems to be the biggest problem with Freelancer these days. Creating a MOD, attracting players and keeping them. Everybody wants their little own universe to play in. Discovery has succeeded in gathering a bunch of players that actually stick with the server. Personally I think that's because of the freedom the server offers.
What's with the "don't compare us to others"? I do that all the time. So far, this server (in comparison to other servers) and MOD (in comparison to other MODs) has kept me around.
You seem to see comparison as a bad thing and something that shouldn't be done, not an opportunity to help keeping the community/MOD/server alive. Without comparison any community will go stale, stagnate and die. This problem lies elsewhere. Any community tends to end up more or less xenophobic if no new members come around.
The xenopobia is a bit of a red herring to this topic, but I'll voice my opinion on it anyways.
This is not a problem exclusive to this forum, it's just a natural development. I'm generally a friendly and tolerant person (you don't need to take my word for it) but this really pisses me off. It happens every once in a while on every single forum or community I've ever been a member of. I'm not talking internet forums exclusively here, but it seems that there are a lot more "less tolerant" persons on the net.
I know the arguments. "We had this discussion a few weeks ago"
"Do a search before you post"
"You're a n00b so you have no say"
"I have one thing to say to that preon... Good riddance."
I despise people that do that.
Ok, back on topic (kind of):

Yes roleplaying has absolutely nothing to do with what equipment you are using.

Read Hoods post. Then follow the advice given. Then stop with that dumb face. Then go see 'the hitcher', and cool off.
Unconstructive and didn't add to the discussion. :yahoo:

144 pages of "Word Game" thread...Am I the only one who took the red pill?

There seem to be more focus on me than usefull feed back on Rules and role play.
No, don't expect anyone to give up something that attracts a lot of gamers. I think most players are aware of the problems but tend to ignore them.
As for the 144 pages of "Word Game", that was totally irrelevant and you sound stuck up.
Yes, this thread has ended up more about you than about rules and roleplay, but you brought that upon yourself.
But none of the above pissed me off as much as this:
' Wrote:I have one thing to say to that preon... Good riddance.
You are (until proven otherwise) officially an [insert offensive word here] in my book.
' Wrote:I have one thing to say to that preon... Good riddance.
Congratulations, Tank.
You made the Buttinski Hall of Shame.
You're famous for saying "one thing", whether it actually has any semantic content or not.
To all of you who have your hackles up over some perceived threat to your Disco way of life: Chill out.
If the day has come when one must be afraid of being ostracized for simply presenting ideas and alternatives, then perhaps I don't belong here any more either.
And then you can get a little stiffy by telling me "good riddance", Tank, you putz.
I don't think anyone (who matters) would dream of stifling free speech of this forum. It's the input of everybody, no matter how wayward or convoluted, that's the life blood of Disco and both mod and community the great things they are.
"I might not agree with what you say, but I will defend with my life your right to say it."
As for Preon's essays, speaking for myself, I'm simply getting weary from wading through pages of stream-of-consciousness rambling. I'm sorry to be blunt....
But hell, I'd be a lot sorrier of Preon decided never to voice another opinion on this or any other forum, for fear of being ostracized or ridiculed for it. Preon I hope you are still watching.
Preon, way to go, this is what we want of players, to bring new ideaas and suggestions instead of having them shot down automatically, why not try and see validity in them.
and again to tank---> go back from whence ye came

Preon, you do have some interesting ideas, but I think your preaching to the wrong group. This mod is based around expanding on the FL universe, not around creating a rule-free enviroment. You said it yourself, there are still some rules thet would need to be made and enforced in any mulit-player game. So, at that point, you might as well carry on with the game as it is, for there would be a need for administration anyways.
