I was pirating a Rheinland train today along with Zelot, and I began to drop screamer mines in order to lower the ship's shield, along with firing my SN at it(I was flying the FA Bomber). I dropped the screamer mines along the length of the ship(where the cargo pods are), and to my dismay, they were inflicting no shield damage at all, despite clearly detonating before my eyes. Then I dropped one close to the nose of the Rheinland Train, and a good 1/5 of the shield went down. After several more repetitions, I found that unless I dropped the mines around the front end of the train, no shield damage would occur.
On the other hand, I could fire my SN at any part of the ship and incur shield damage.
It really puzzled me.
While I do not have any screenshots of this(my bad), I recommend that you do test this out for yourself, as only after repeated times can we be sure that it is an actual bug, not a instanced event.
I don't, however, believe that this is a bug surrounding my character, as my screamer mines worked perfectly well when I later engaged an OC Gunship on the same character. The mines detonated and a chuck of the GS's shield bar disappeared.
And no, it wasn't Zelot's fault, there's something amiss here.

because i am mean - i have placed the shield gen at the very FRONT of the ship - so the screemer is out of luck unless the train runs "into" it.
the supernova is a gun and not a missile ( like other explosives ) - so it just needs to hit anywhere.
many ships have weak spots - but also some advantages. - take the zoner jug, its immune to capital missiles as long as its shield is up. - it can also only be damaged by screamers when you drop them from above or below ( and you must still know where the shield gen is - its not in the middle of the ship of course - that d be boring )
Weapons with area of effect only damage the shield when the explosion radius encompasses the shield hardpoint...
The shield hardpoint on the Rheinland Train is at the front of the ship.
This does not apply to hull damage, where an area of effect weapon can strike any part of it and expect to do at least some damage when the shield is down.
It's a hardcoded issue.:sleep:
It is a bug... it's just not one of those we can fix....
