Hello all! I have been thinking of a possible new type of ship. Well, more like a new type of weapon that is available on only select ships, like the liberty destroyers main gun (I think that's the one that has the gun you can't unmount/ mount on another ship).
How about a gunboat or similar vessel that had the ability to disrupt all cruise engines within a vacinity of it? The device would need to be able to be turned on and off, and use power when it is on (so it cannot be always on). I was thinking it could replace the thruster and use the thruster power supply instead of the standard weapons one. I would be like a swarm missle launcher that hits all ships in range, would not inflict any damage, and would not have a visible projectile. This type of device would be an asset to law enforcement officers (and any pirates that are able to backwards engineer it). It should only be on gunship or larger vessels.
Tell me what you think, if it is doable, if you have different take on the idea, or if the idea sounds like the ravings of a madman. (If it is the last, you would not be far from the truth:laugh:)
Actually, I had a similar idea awhile back: How about a C/D mine? it would be a great asset to cops and pirates, and then it wouldn't take up the thruster slot. The only problem is, most larger ships cant carry mines, but it would make fighters a much more viable option for police and pirates alike, as they wouldn't have to sacrifice the torp slot for a CD, the only drawbakc is that you would have to be quite close.

I've just took down some NPC BH battleships and I've just noticed that they have been counted as fighters in the Player's Status - stats. The Nomads' BS have counted correctly but the BH ones not. Probably you alredy know it but I've not been able to find previous posts on this point.

I've been flying a liberty gunboat, and noted some glitches..
1. The forward gun firing arcs are... odd. It can't fire directly forward, and can't target anything under (even slightly under) the plane of the ship. Even when the target is in the proper part of the firing arc, the shot fails most of the time. As it is now, its just an energy eater with no real use. If you hit the target its not because you are good, but because the enemy pilot flew into the shot.
2. It has a blind spot right in the stern. If you approach from that direction, the weapons will not be able to do enough damage to force the attacker to evade. Even an MkII LF can beat the cra* out of the gunboat given enough skill.
3. The starboard-bow and port-bow turrets can't fire backwards even when they have perfect line of sight to the target. If you move your cross air slightly more than 170 rear, the turret will attempt to target the new spot by turning in the other direction. You loose like 5 seconds. 5 Seconds without coverage from two turrets. (The lib cruiser has the same problem with some turrets).

Big ships are still unbalanced. They should be more powerful, but incredibly expensive.
A battleship should cost around 1500mill. Be powerful enough to wipe like 3 cruisers, and a whole wing of fighters. Like EVE big ships...
What is the point of having a BS if a single bomber, Or two-three fighters, can take you down?
Battleships should be the kings of the battlefield. Another battleship, ot 2+ capships of smaller size, or 6 fighters with bombers should be able to take it... but no less than that.
A bomber should have trouble with a cruiser... As of now, a fighter can take down a cruiser alone.
Note that shields are stronger. Shields also need to regenerate a big faster.
With those stats, getting a BS will be hard as hell. Players will have to team up and get into factions to be able to buy them. There will be less big ships, and more fighter-bomber squads. Seeing a battleship will be rare... Even here, as there might be the need to do a player wipe in order to migrate to FLSM. FLSM has a big advantage over IFSO, as you need to install the client on the client PC in order to connect to FL. That is because cheat detection. It uses a hash to determine if the mod installation is ok and untampered. That way crashes should be avoided and cheaters should become rare. Server stablity will be improved.
BTW, denier. where can i get a copy of polaris? Ive head that you balanced battleships nicely and i would like to see how they look now...

I must say I completely agree with Korrd. I've been trying to get the BSs revamped for some time now... -.-
Also. a little notion about the Ravenclaw. (No need to thank me Caylith.:P)
It needs a bit of an upgrade. The Eagle VHF right now has more armor, almost the same firepower, and MUCH more agility. The Ravenclaw's weapons, energy, and agility are just fine as they are. The armor needs increased to 12,500 though, as its 9000 right now which is less than the Eagle by 900. Right now it stands no chance against an Eagle.
Also, the Ravens Talon needs its armor changed to 11,000 instead of the current 9000. Again, Eagle has more agility, and the Sabre has the same agility, with alot more armor.
I think the Bretonian and Kusari Destroyers need an upgrade as well. A few versions back we changed turret numbers to even the damage done by all the ships. Now with the new cruisers and suff, we have gotten away from that method of balancing. Unfortunately this left these two cruiser-class ships in the dust.
They both need an extra 3-4 turrets, plus about 10% more energy than its current amount.
Raven is fine as it is now. Remember it has 8 guns. IF you want more firepower, you sacrifice armor/handling for that.
Do you remember our last PvP? I took down your Eagle bit by bit with my Raven Claw. It took me two hours, but my raven got you, eventually. If i remember correctly, Hoodlum and Virus were there watching the fight...
