Keep in mind that some of these official factions do in fact keep their independents very well in line. We just don't see that often as they don't work on the scale that we do, and we're both on our own ends of the community with little overlap.
As for the rest, there's little else I can say. We're on the same page and we'll both write a book before we reach that conclusion.
All I have left to offer is the observation that the one major hurdle to good roleplay and a tightly bonded social community even among the well-seasoned vets here is that this is the internet, and social skills aren't always in abundant supply.
Once everyone's got 'spaceship computer game' solidly in mind when debating the finer minutae of faction powers, we'll all come to agreeable solutions that much quicker.

Ha Ha...that is an understatement. Kudos to the good guys--they are out there. Humble people don't generally blow their own horns so we usually hear from the others most times (I'm very proud to say I am more humble than most of you:mellow:)
Here is where I am presently (and only personally) at: I have a limited amount of time, a wife, dog and three kids and two jobs. I come on here to play and relax. Angry PMs and arguments do not make me want to be "social" with anyone--especially when they are over the top emotionally entangled in what is really only a game.
If a knock was heard at my door and I stopped what I was doing to answer it and a man standing there whom I had never met started with, "I don't like you--you are a jerk!"...guess what I would do? (and you too) We would shut the door in his face.
As a great poet once said in a time of war and struggle, "Enough with the negative waves man."
[Muwahahaaha! My post count is rising! (I just noticed)]
I'll close this out by saying that I believe that those who want to dictate what others do with their leisure time likely have entirely too much themselves.
Have consideration for the situations of others, be civil and good-natured in your dealings, and be happy. To hell with everything else, it's all small stuff.

Post count taken into consideration , I've been thru everything that has happened here from the time I joined. What are you talking about then ? I and many others want exact details and prove of what you are saying.
Yes , I want to feel like that. I enjoy having responsibilities when it comes to the community and yes , people should want that as well. Why not ? You are basically saying what I did , just using different words. If they wish to have said responsibilities and be leaders of factions , they are free to apply. No one has stopped them from doing so. Even if they want to remain independent , a word which only exists on the forums and cannot in any way be RP when in a military organization , you can get respect and feel important as well , I did that. I made my Order character a very long time ago and from that moment on I simply RP'ed. Everything else happened by itself. I don't expect people to always join official factions , I expect them to do what everyone should do - RP. I don't play 24/7 , never have , mostly 30min / 1h is enough
Hard ? It's not harder then doing the same in a fighter. How do you think I and many other people did it ? Speaking just for myself here - I traded for 3-4 days to get the money , then went to Tripoly and bought my Osiris. The moment I did that I RP'ed a bit and went to Minor , one day later I met Swiss on his Bs| and we RP'ed. He seemed to like it and the same goes 1 year or so latter. I wrote a story on the forums , but that was only because I wanted , no one made me.
So honestly , I don't see your point. Sounds like you are shooting in the dark.
Post count shows one of two things here, one, I like Flood. Two, I am more active on the forums than you are. Take that as you will, or call me a spammer, it does not matter. You have had bouts of inactivity. Let me guess, the incident with the capital ship registers? Register or PVP-whorage of your ships, consistent dock killing, two OC Dreadnoughts in NY? Do I honestly need to elaborate because you have seriously forgotten?
Oh, let us not leave the Order| or Bs| as they were known out of this as well, where certain independents got into the action too much and Starflea's were getting killed for being in a guard system. Oh, and Swiss' own paranoia after the [OTF_RU]. Starting to get the idea now?
I obviously need to put it more directly, so I will try to stick to short sentences. Independents need to do more to earn respect. Independents will never have that feeling of trust and importance that you speak of. As such, in a faction you already have this. Any suggestion of the independents joining factions is invalid, as there are reasons they are independent. Also, as you do not play 24/7 on your independent, or your VF, a clan which I cannot even remember seeing online, you are hardly affected by this, which is why I do not believe your opinion holds much weight.
My point is once this is allowed factions will abuse it, not all, but some. It will be almost impossible to prove abuse. Hence, appeal system failure, if abuse occurs. Not only that, but factions want more power. We already see people wanting amendments to the proposal so that it can be extended to all capital ships. What next? Renaming my character? Demoting my rank? Making my ship statistics worse? (Maybe you all look at me as paranoid, but look at some of the responses in this thread from faction hard-liners, which look down at independents, and tell me, how, as an independent role-playing character am I going to be better off?)
Once again, still all getting massively distracted by potential abuse of players' rights, when right now, players are clearly definitely abusing battleships to do whatever they feel like.

Really? When was the last time you saw a BS chase down an LF?
