One word. Kefka.
(Nah, seriously. You obviously never played through the earlier FF games. Yeah, 1 and 2 weren't that great, but hey, so where almost all other NES RPGs apart from DQ IV. FF4, 5 and 6 were quite great games and imo, 6 easily beats 7 in both story and graphics. But I guess that's all about personal taste.)
My favorites are the already mentioned FFVI and Fallout 2, Starcraft, Dragon Quest: Hand of the Heavenly Bride and Maboroshi no Deichi (Realms of Reverie). I also loved Valkyrie Profile (one of the best JRPGs ever made, imo).
Too bad that Deus Ex and Baldur's Gate 2 were released in 2000, else, I'd add them to this list as well;).
I've played 1 2 4 5 and 6 and completed all but 1 and 4. They're just not very good. Very basic in every way. 6, by far the best of the bunch, just has very flat, bland characters and dialogue, a cliche plot, boring 12-bar-blues music, too much dungeon crawling and level grinding, basically just nothing going on that drew me in to it. Maybe I was just too old when I played it and noticed all the problems.
Starcraft. - Whats not to love?
Half Life - One of the best FPS's you'll ever play.
RollerCoster Tycoon - One of my favorite games.
Sim City 2000 and the Original.- First Video Game I ever played and enjoyed it alot.
