Hello Everyone.

I started playing Discovery at the end of March, and quickly joined the Gateway faction. Due to other things, I wasn't able to play very regularly, and for the last month, I haven't played at all.

But now, I'm able to get a few hours in a week. I've found trading to be a bit of a bore, however, and I rather hastily resigned my character from his Gateway job. I wanted to do a bit of exploring and stuff, perhaps a bit of "Odds and Ends" work, but then it really hit me...

It's a bit of a big game, isn't it?

So... where do I start? I've not had too much experience at roleplay (apart from the "Ok, Mr Pirate, I'll pay" kind of thing) and I kind of feel a bit uneasy at plunging head-first into anything like that. From the money that I got trading with gateway, I've bought myself a Falcon fighter (I think it was a Falcon, I got it on a Rheinland planet and it looked quite cool) but I just guess I need a pointer towards where to go to pick up some good roleplay, and perhaps some combat.

I like the community here, though I've never been a big forum poster on any board, everyone seems helpful and friendly.

Your advice will be greatly appreciated, and I look forward to being part of this community.

If you're the independent sort of person, and like to RP, I could recommend some freelancing work. If you do good, try to RP, people will notice, not only will you get jobs, you will get good RP, opportunity for combat if you're escorting, and paid. A lot.

I for example, back in the day when I created my Freelancer, went around in an Eagle, met this Junker, never forgot how awesome the guy was. He employed me, we did cross-Sirius routes, I earned over 30 million credits in two hours, and it was some of the most fun RP I've ever had.
(Thanks Tyler Durden, by the way)

If that fails, you can always try making another sort of character, something original, if you can come up with it. If it's still early, I recommend the Freelancer.

Oh and, if you need a freelancing job, any kind of help, advice or material, let me know.

This server needs more people like that.

Welcome aboard, Kra. I've been here awhile myself (1 and a half yearish), though I didn't register on the forums until recently. Take Swift's Freelancer suggestion, and if you're going to join a faction, think twice about it and then think again. No good joining a faction and then deciding you don't like it for whatever reason.

Thank you all for the kind welcome.

I think Freelancing would be the best way to go, as you've suggested. I think my problem is finding the places that are best for RP, in which I mean: the best places to find people.

Also, I've seen someone talk about "codies" somewhere. Are they some kind of ship or weapon?

Thanks again for your help.

You might try Dublin and Omega 49. Whole bunch of strange people looking to kill stuff around those parts.

Welcome to Discovery, here are some rules:

- If you see any of my LR characters, make sure to pay them double what I ask (joke),
- If you see any admin ships, make sure to shoot them until they die (joke),
- If you want to be a Freelancer, I suggest you get an Eagle or a Roc bomber with some decent guns, maybe 4.00 refire raters and one or two shield busters available at Freeport 4 (the place you can buy the Eagle or the Roc) (not a joke).

Edit: I have been forced to put joke and not joke after every sentence under threat of lawsuit, I lied to too many new players (joke, or is it...).

[17:45:39] Wolfs Ghost (Murphy): Tom, you have problems. Go kill yourself.
[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.
' Wrote:Edit: also, Tomtomrawr, fappin' like a boss.
