I've been looking around for the "awesomest" research transport available for my researcher. It's been hard to find pictures of the ships, and I'm sure there's many models I haven't even found yet. So, offer your advice! The researcher ID allows pretty much anything civilian to be flown. This is more about looks than user friendliness - it has to look the part: a lab, an office, a transport, a home - a ship built for long missions, and able to do much of the research right then and there.
Best options so far:
Series "DL" Border Worlds Transport. (Zoners) My current ship. Beautiful - you can just imagine the labs and equipment inside!
"Democritus" Luxury Yacht. (Spa'n'Cruise) Not bad at all. Unusual design, pretty.
Worst options:
All transports.
All trains.
What am I missing here though? I'm sure there are transports that aren't even listed on the wiki, and many of them have no pictures from which to form an opinion. For example, I'm very unfamiliar with the liner-class of ships. Help me out guys!
In the meantime, I'm gonna try out transport turrets to see if there's any that won't ruin the look of the ship I'm in. If thy all look too big and excessive - I'll just settle for some class 3-5s instead.
Funny, I was solving this issue just the other day, my dear Lloyd here, as evil people chased him from planet, he needs to move his home and lab to some ship.. I have gone trough tenths of them, and what came up was...
Prison Liner- Old, big, actually used as laboratories, good looking...
Luxury Liner - Well... With some heavy modification, it can be a lab &
home as well.
Yacht - Best opinion I would say... Smaller, fast, 2x CM, luxury home, nice laboratory...
Geisha- Well... It's kinda house based... othewise it's nicer-looking Yach with the pretty much same luxury onboard, smaller, slower and less hull.
Corvo- Ideal. Good looking, manufactured to serve as a home (and/or lab), the description fits in nicely, agile, small, defensive. Problem: It's a cruiser. That brings in few complications.
Kusari Explorer: Ugly, big, not agile at all... Yet it's having tradition... being used as laboratory...
That's all I guess. The BW transport is nice, yet it's a cargo ship with pilot cabin, and I don't like that at all.
I buy things I don't want to make an impression on people I don't like.
Awesome. Thanks for the extra input. The prison liner is a definite option, and the democritus yacht is also excellent. I think the Borderworld is actually excellent - I think of the pilot cabin more as a bridge, and I like the look very much. I'll look closer at the yacht and the liner, to see if I perfer one of those over the BW transport.:)
I'm still having troubles with deciding there... Any opinions will be heard happily, really. Prison Liner is good thing, I just fear that It may rise some suspicions from people around... I really like the Corvo, it looks great, and as said, it was actually made for similar purpose, so the systems are created to work alone as a home in space... But it's cruiser... that can bring troubles here and there...

I'm sure you could get admin Rp-permission to fly a cruiser on a research ID, under turret-restrictions, and with a good rp background. Lot of work though! Me - I'lls tick with something generic.:)

mac
Well, I am flying under a Zoner flag (I think, another thing I haven't decided yet... Zoner... reasercher...) anyway, so it shouldn't be such a problem, what I mean is the RP... Cruiser, even if it is bigger gunboat, which Corvo indeed is, can bring some problem. It has " Not constructed as weapon " in description... Yet still, people don't like having capships around basically... And I don't think I'll be fighting at all... (But... but Cruiser, no matter which one, have tendency to repel pirates... that can be good point there)...
EDIT: It's funny anyway, looking for safe ship, with no intention to trade or fight in any way haha.

Cryer's research division currently consists of two yachts and a royal liner on loan from the Cambridge Research Institute. Both ships fit the part as well as any, I think, but if jinx's medical frigate thing comes to be, that will definitely be the #1 choice, for Cryer at least.
There's already one too many Carrier Reasearchers I fear...

Hmm, do you have a link on that frigate? (Yes, I know there is a search button, so... do you have a link?)
I guess the Yacht isn't bad solution, even tho it's not the nicest one ever...

Actually, it's a yacht, a royal liner, and a kushan freighter (or whatever it's called now). My yacht is only used for snobbing around.
I'd suggest prison liner, a freighter, or the BWT... have to say, it does seem a bit restricted.
