I couldn't believe the rules prohibited this when I came on here and read them... I mean, it's almost a core military tactic used EVERYWHERE. When outnumbered, don't stay still and fight, harass and wear them down.
... Why IS that rule in place, anyway? I probably missed some incident that caused them to have to instate such a rule, but I'm curious what it is...
The issue here is something called shield running. When in combat, a player runs from direct fire to replenish their shields, then goes right back to the fight. This will lead to virtually endless fights. It is throughly annoying when abused (and it was). Also, it also presents the possibility of someone to simply dock, rearm and repair, and attack again. The Only conceivable place I could actually see a tactical retreat is during a day long event in which both parties agree not to dock to rearm (unless they bring a resupply ship with them)
The part I don't understand.... what's so bad about docking and re-arming? That's a normal tactic... I mean, the whole idea for the law enforcement is to remove the pirates from their space. If the pirates want to do it in an area with fresh supplies constantly available, like near Ft. Bush, that's their problem... maybe they should pick somewhere else to fight? That would also help the problem of these pirates hanging out in places they really shouldn't be able to.
Piracy is supposed to be hard, isn't it? Especially if you're doing in the home system?
Also, on the shield running thing, that makes sense, but I was more referring to a FULL tactical retreat, to re-engage once resupplied. If new developments suddenly mean a pilot is horribly outnumbered, he should be able to disengage and come back when he can deal with it... I mean, if he successfully flees, he obviously didn't die, or he'd be dead. So, if you're not dead, why does it count as such? Not only that, but the only time that should be possible is if the enemy doesn't have cruise disruptors. If they do, he'll die anyway and it's not an issue.

Just my 2 cents
Well I'd agree that its a little silly not being able to rearm. But the issue here is that people will use this to gain upper hands on their own turf. Docking, repairing, and resupplying is something we do in EVE. But as many of you are so fond of pointing out, this isnt eve. Its not even a pvp server.
I honestly cant believe anyone would pvp without a CD, or someone in their "fleet" who has one. But I suppose with this rule it may as well be a torpedoe and do some damage.......
Ah, another EVE player... a lot of my ideas/beliefs probably sound familiar to you then.
Also, this is at least a thousand years in the future... why can't repairs happen with a push of a button?:D(har har har)
To be serious though, what if you made it so that if you FLEE you only have to wait 30 minutes (for repairs) instead of 4 hours (which there's no point in fleeing, you may as well just let them kill you and respawn)
Also, I thought Home Turf was SUPPOSED to have at least a slight advantage?
The main purpose of this server is Roleplay. Everything else is secondary (combat, trading, etc...) If you want to PvP non-stop, take it to Connecticut (which is what it was created for) or take it to a different server.
Your point about things being repaired at the push of a button... inconceivable. Does not make any sense that commodities would need to be traded if you could just create it with a push of a button. (if you can make ship parts at the push of a button, why not food, water, metals, etc...) ALSO, even IF you could repair a ship at the touch of a pretty little button, how about the pilot? There will never be any instantaneous cure for any aliment or damage to a person. It is physically impossible, and would not be beneficial to anyone. Human beings need TIME to heal, no matter what type of injury one may have inflicted upon them.
As for reducing the time limit for re-engagement, that has been done (for a short period, it was 2hrs not 4hrs) however that was reversed quickly because it was abused. Players would be engaged multiple times by the same player in a single session, over and over again. Thus, not being able to create any sort of inventive RP (and was rather annoying). conversations ended up sounding like "Back again for more?" "Yeah, enging pewpewlolz."

Because even if you die,the 4 hour's still stand. You still cannot re-ingage,you still have to leave the system for 4 hour's,unless your killer, and any he was grouped with leave,at which time you can come back. That is why people flee,so they can save some cash, and maybe something on their ship. another reason... THIS IS AN RP SERVER people do not fight till the death, then just jump into another plane/tank/ship,and continue on.
RP Oh no i am going to die,i should run.
Ohaidere! I run the LN. We lawful types do exist. We do find ourselves horribly outnumbered a lot of the time. We also have to put up with complete morons who are supposedly on our side.
