Today, i've fought 2 bhg battleships in my carrier.

I thrusted to 5k range, fired missiles, got their shield and some of their hull down.

One of them cruised off.

10mins later, I told him to leave the system. He told me I had fled the battle, although, I never engaged cruise.

Who fled in the first place? Me for thrusting out of range and missilespamming him? Or him for cruising?

Seeing as this is my "lolwutbhgbattleships get out now, or face my missilespams," technique for getting them out of delta, I need this clarified. I had the whole system yell that I had fled the battle on the second time.

So basically: What counts as "fleeing the battle"?

The BHG, of course. Thrusting isn't fleeing, engaging cruise, is, if you read the rules. He should had leaved the system.

Agreed. Thrusting isn't really fleeing. Cruising is fleeing.
Also, for fighting those two battleships in a carrier you used the right tactic.

[17:45:39] Wolfs Ghost (Murphy): Tom, you have problems. Go kill yourself.
[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.

Did you at any time leave scanner range by thrusting?

Yeah, thrusting out 5k isn't fleeing. They're the ones who should have left.

What counts as "fleeing the battle"?
- Docking with a station, jump gate, or trade lane.
- Activating your cruise engine.
- Leaving scanner range.
- Being more than 4-8 km away from the other ship but the exact definition depends on the ship types. If you're still in weapons range or within 1 or 2km of weapons range then it's not fleeing.

Just set a single range for fleeing with thrusters.
Honestly, less grey area with this one please. Battlecruisers chasing after single LFs can be a pain, when they sit at a station and fire missiles at you from over 5k away.

What about using thrusters to get some distance between you and a fight with multiple people on either side?

For example: your fighter's been torn up, there's a cruiser 4k away shooting at something occasionally, you go and shelter near it. You're way out of range of the hostile fighters, and can no longer have a direct impact on the fight. Is that fleeing?

Too many rules, really. *flails about helplessly*

Actually, it sounds more like it was an unsatisfactory engagement for both sides. A Mako is more than a match for a single Order Carrier.

And please specify in the future if the bounty hunter ships involved were BHG| or generic indies - and of course, leave appropriate comments if necessary in our feedback thread.

The Mako, unlike the Bullhead, doesn't have a thruster. So when you were at 5K and lobbing missiles, the range was getting extreme, and it's possible if the player involved didn't realize it, he may have thought you had engaged cruise engines as well. One of my tactics for flying into combat is to come in with EK at cruise speeds, and since my ships do have thrusters, utilize that speed as needed for quick direction changes.

Also if you had left their scanner range, then you had disengaged as well, so ...
