I think the BHG should've fled for this one. Reavengitair didn't necessarily leave weapons range because I believe he said he thrusted away and then shot missiles, meaning he was still fighting. Also, scanner range is 13k, so I doubt he left scanner range.

Carlos Rivera: Corsair Brotherhood Pirate - Retired, shifted to Tripoli Shipyard's Research and Development engineering teams Anthony Cameron: Guild Core Bounty Hunter - Killed in Action, committed suicide after being trapped in Omicron Minor following its destruction Juan Ruiz: Outcast Ghost of Razgriz Pirate - Killed in Action, killed by the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army during Bretonian piracy raid Michael Winchester: Liberty Security Force Agent - Missing in Action, likely killed during Rheinland espionage mission or trapped in Rheinland Space Eric McCormick: Order Pilot - Retired, shifted to planetside training of new recruits
Klaw117 is correct. Distance 5k in a BS - BC engagement? That's still in combat. Maybe *just a bit* beyond the range of cruiser missiles when fired from a standing ship, I can't remember the exact value. It's definitely not "1k - 2k above weapons range".
The only way to fight a battleship in a BC, including the carrier, is to stay at maximum range and fire missiles. If you get even within 3k, the battleship is going to tear you to pieces with superior firepower, armor, and a much better powercore.
He may not like it, but that is a valid tactic for combatting a larger ship. He engaged cruise first, so he lost the fight.
However, if the order carrier lost or fled from the battle with the second BHG ship, and both BHG ships stayed in-system, then the first one would have been very right to tell the order carrier to leave.

Both indies.
To clarify - I never keep the range at 5k - the entire time I was about 3.5-4k away. Still out of range of the BS, but not too far away. Not off scanner range. Then the battleship turns around, cruises, then refuses to leave the system 10mins later.
think of it as that... - if you are flying a ship that is fighting another ship that has fled out of effective weaponrange - and you have no chance to catch up to get it into your weaponrange - what will you consider it?
a carrier has no effectiveway to harm a battleship at 5k - the missile do hit. but i highly doubt that you can chew through the shields. - its a bit of a bugger - a situation like a very light fighter. - dodging all the time until all eternity. - never attempting to attack .... is it effectively participating in a combat? or is it just stalling the fight.
if you feel thta the BHG BS , having no chance to fight you ... should have retreated from the system for up to 4 hours. - and you apply this rule to yourself, if you are in the position of the BS next time... you re good to go to assume that the BHGs were wrong.
if you do however think that stalling a combat like that ... forcing a retreat in that way "deserved" a 4 hours lock from a retreat is NOT ok ... then you should not have assumed them fleeing.
would have been best to just agree, that both had retreated from one another - and maybe don t insist on retreats at all ( from both sides ) - insisting on a rule is detrimental ( from both sides ) and harms gameplay - for those involved.

A good tactic.

Call the escorts. SHOULDN'T THOSE THINGS HAVE ESCORTS AT ALL TIMES?

Serves them right for not having escorts, or battleship missiles (which can hit me from a range of 4k, but not 5, but by the time I can get out to 5k, he would have drained my shields)

I can damage their hull, and I've proved that. They just flee soon after.

the reason of all this is I don't understand how people can accuse me of fleeing WHEN IM STILL ATTACKING THE PERSON.
