Hello, I was hoping there might be some sorting out to be had. The confusion mainly comes from this rule:
Quote:6.22 For purposes of the server rules, the following ship classes are defined:
- all light fighters, heavy fighters, very heavy fighters, super heavy fighters, and bombers are considered fighters;
- trader ships with cargo hold less than 650 units are considered freighters; - trader ships with cargo hold more than 650 units, including liners, are considered transports;
- gunboats, cruisers (including destroyers and battlecruisers), battleships (including dreadnoughts and juggernauts) are considered capital ships.
As you can see, while the cargo hold sizes and everything have been updated to their newest values (implying things have been looked at since 4.85), the rule clearly says that 650+ cargo ships, including liners, are transports. This in turn makes me wonder about the IDs that specifically state Liners.
Is this redundant, saying those ID holders can use transports (including liners) and liners?
Is it an oversight, with liner needing to be listed in another category in the rules?
From past threads, I distinctly recall seeing that IDs are supposed to take priority, but, in this case, as it's the definition used on the IDs. Thus I'm not sure what to think of the matter.
No, it is just an oversight in the rules, Liners are their own classification, You can only use a liner with those ID's that specifically state that you can use a liner. While the cargo values have been adjusted, this part of the rules need to be clarified. This was actually discussed during the 4.85 development process, and it was decided that Liners needed to be their own classification for ID purposes.
' Wrote:I believe it's anything called a <Something> Liner.
Anything with Liner in the name. One thing to note, the ship that used to be known as the Kusari Cruise Liner in 4.84 has a new model and a new name because it is not a liner, it is call the Kusari Luxury Transport and is classed as a transport.
Edit: Prison Liner, Lux Liner, Royal Liner, Slave Liner... I am pretty sure that is it.
The thing about liners is there is no specs for a liner, it's not like if a ship has such amount of Armour and such amount of guns, and such and amount of cargo its a liner. Liners are designed and developed as liners, they are a different concept than transport ships. They have more Armour and guns as well as being much much bigger than transports with similar cargo holds. What I am saying is it is not the stats that make a liner, but they way its designed and implemented into the game, you wont have to worry about that transport of yours becoming a liner because it gets some kind of stat change, Liners are Liners, transports are transports.
' Wrote:Well, that'd be better, except I've heard lots of people say the Geisha IS a Liner.
And I thought it was an oversight, too, originally, but various things I've heard since have made me very curious.
That makes it seem like some real clarification would be great.

SL-17 "Geisha" Kusari Luxury Transport
The reason some people might think this is a liner is that the slot that it takes up in the freelancer code, and the name people see on FL stat is the Kusari Cruise Liner, but that is because the current ship REPLACED the old ship, (which wasn't really even a liner) it is a new ship, but some things still read the old name, but the ingame name, and the official name is the one listed above, which does not include the word liner.
