Honestly, you're going to get negative responses from most Traders when you try to stop them. Just shrug it off and say "Ok.", Thats what I do. But generally, try to avoid PvP unless its a Pirate pirating a lane, or someone killing/pirating in general, and if its a Fighter, just scare them off, or don't use your missiles.
Thats another thing that people will get on you about. Using missiles against just a fighter is an extremely cheap tactic, if theres a Bomber, I can see you using one missile, because its a Bomber, it generally owns your face.
But a Fighter is a different story. If its a Fighter -and- a Bomber? Use your Missile against the Bomber, but not the fighter. Etc, etc. Just don't use missiles against fighters if theres less than 2, and they aren't doing much to your shields.
Mmkay, I'll see to that - I have one missile turret in my 'normal' weapon group. I have another weapon group assigned with two missiles - I only switch to that one when I'm sitting stationary 2k out from a fight. If my understanding of missile mechanics is right, though, the fighter pretty much only need to keep moving to avoid the long range ones.
I thought the missiles were less effective, honestly. A volley of a gunboat's energy weapons can strip a fighter's shields. Meanwhile that Hacker who was by Pittsburgh spent a good few minutes dodging missiles while I sat stationary. I don't think I managed to drop his shields. Or was it someone else who was there when Puzzle came along? *has been at Pittsburgh a few times in the past couple of days*

Also, I'm Puzzle, the Phantom at Pittsburgh. =P
Sorry but if a fighter tries to take on a GB it is his fault. If i am under attack i defend myself with all the guns i have.
However, i give the enemy an opportunity to retreat, if he doesn't want to fight, i let him go.
That was really helpful, thanks. Heh well that would be me that you stopped(Acheron), twice. Yeah I apologize for being ticked off when I ran into ya, I had just spent almost an hour getting that stuff through Hamburg(some nice Rheinland military-types liked to follow me around and make sure I got rid of my cargo, which I promptly went back and bought again). I had been running that route for a while and had never had problems until that day. Is there any way to RP around that? Such as "I stole these engine components for the good of liberty"?
If you're particularly creative/can make me laugh, then I'll more likely than not find a valid reason to let you pass. One way might be a DSE ship taking parts of ships to 'analyse' them, for example; still, he'd have to explain how exactly he got a hold of them in the first place.
To the guy who F1ed on me: I have to ask why? I'm not going to give you some ridiculous fine. The worst I'll do is send you to Houston, and it's more likely that I'll send you to where you bought the things.
I should keep a tally of how many traders I bump into...
Kudos to the guy I caught in the Corsair freighter hauling arms. InRP, I probably -should- have shot you, but you handled it smoothly so I found an excuse for the Interdictor to leave.
Thanks for the help with setting messages, Wuselkobold. They're working well. =)
An aside - I ended up going on a brief jaunt through the Minor jumphole earlier with a bunch of others. People were shouting 'Nomad fleet inbound!' all over the place. The chat list showed they were in Delta, so, uh... Still, we reacted accordingly, since no-one could seriously claim to have scanners that could reach out there. But, anyways, that was something different from usual. I know some Order missions are against Navy NPCs in Minor, so I'm pretty certain it's permissible (according to server rules) for Navy ships to enter. We took the jump hole, had a talk with an Order Recon Cruiser there at it, watched a Hacker and an Outcast fly away, had a brief chat with Ophidian, left again. Not one shot fired. And I got to say 'Bloomin' comm system. What use is telling someone that [CLASSIFIED BY LSF] are inbound towards [CLASSIFIED BY LSF].' I first saw Nolan.Wolf doing the classified thing, IIRC, and I like it.
