I consider the lone Liner-flyers out there totally non-RP.
I love you too Night.
Well, I do think that the guns should be either downgraded in number to 6ner and 8/Prison ship, or reduced in class to fighter/transport turret slots. The agility should be downgraded to a level that fits better with the size of the ship. The shield could stay though, I don't think that Spa & Cruise would skimp on protecting their customers. It shouldn't be good in a fight, but some people are eccentric.

I agree with Koolmo on this one. And Night also, kinda. I definitely think that agility should be downgraded (as stated above), and turret strength. I think Spa + Cruise would go with a lot of weak turrets. A lot of a little makes a whole boatload of lasers coming at you.
But, I also agree with Nightfall in saying that Liners are supposed to be escorted. But it's impractical to say they have to be escorted. I mean, who actually gets an escort anymore?
I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.
RP Story (Still deciding whether or not to finish)
Are we having the liner discussion all over again?
Heres my dice on the subject:
Luxury liner should have 6 Gunboat guns and a gunboat power supply with gunboat sheilds and the maneverability of a cruiser.
Prison liner should have 8 guns, 4 transport and 4 gunboat, with a slighly lower power supply and a gunboat sheild and the maneverability of a cruiser
Yes, it is a transport, but you have to do twice the amount of runs to get the same amount of money, you just do it in security....
They should cost about 50 million each aswell i think. At least as much as gunboat.
those are my opinions on the matter.
Thats true about the escorts...its too easy to run nowadays. Tell you what, why dont you make CD's fireable (is that a word?) in cruise and make the cruise speed of transports 300. That would give pirates an easier way of pirating, possibly forcing an escort to be hired...

I chose the wrong words there. I meant the Liners themselves, no idea why I added the 'fliers' there. Anyway, I still stand behind my other comments.
If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God? - from 'Nightfall' by I. Asimov The Outcasts consider Siniestre Nube a sacred place for several reasons. Early explorers discovered a jumphole within the depths of the cloud that leads to a strange world of ringed stars and strange craft. All ships in the burrial ground are placed facing that hole to honor the Alien Spirits. - An Outcast rumor

Transports, including liners, shouldn't be able to fly around without escorts
The same is true for battleships down to fighters, all have escorts.
So that argument doesn't really hold water, if the liner should be weakened because it has an escort, all ships should likewise be weakened, especially the battleships which require cap ship escorts, how weak should be for that?
There really is no valid reason that I have seen to further nerf the liner, in fact it should be beefed up considerably.

Actually, it's one of the few ships that should be able to, two are parked, alone, as stations. Something only battleships can otherwise do. That's a pretty good indication that liners should be a tough nut to crack.
I see a lot of posts that seem to want Spa and Cruise to build a floating target without any real reason why they would. Why would they risk their livelihood and reputation by putting their passengers in a flying eggshell? Pirates have gunboats, they can expect pirates to attack, so their ship should be more than a match for a gunboat, otherwise they have no business.
What you're not getting is that a liner is a civilian ship and cap is a military ship which may not need escort based on its firepower. Also a liner should be made to RP standards, transport weapons with MAYBE a few GB weapons and a heavier shield and armor. But make it so that it needs an escort to bring down fighters.
Or bombers for that matter, a bomber should always be able to beat a liner no questions asked...

What your not getting that you are assaigning arbitray weaknesses to the liner that have nothing to do with the freelancer universe.
Yes it is a civilian ship, so is the eagle, arguably the best fighter in the unmodded game. The game designers gave the lux liner stats that make it a formidable cap ship, and nothing posted so far makes that decision seem wrong.
The escort thing is a red herring, all NPC's are escorted except (iirc) the repair ship.
The lux liner would be designed to survive, being a huge ship that means cap ship weaps and shields. There is no way Spa and Cruise is going to build a huge ship and fill it with passengers only to let a single bomber take it out easily. Spa and Cruise are not Moe, Larry and Curly.
I agree with Wobbly. Liners should be toned down, but not to the extent that other people are talking. Probably should make them slower, less agile, and reduce their firepower a pinch, but not too much.
