I've got a quick question concerning the Freelancer ID. If you are able to purchase the ID without having a Freelancer tag (AKA, Freelancer faction flashing green on rep board), are you allowed to use it without any kind of IFF?
(Background stuff, not a necessary read)
Just some background on this question (if you're interested). I just made a new character that is basically an insane terrorist. No, I do not plan on PvP whoring with him (on top of that, the Freelancer ID doesn't allow it). However, the Freelancer ID is really the only ID I could find that would allow my character to act like a terrorist without breaking any rules. Now that I have the ship mostly set up, I'm wondering if I need the IFF along with the ID.
I really don't think there's such a thing as a Freelancing terrorist, but this is the best I can do with out going all out and writing a story asking for the ID (although, if this works, I'll try to do that).
The Freelancer ID is quite an open ID and can be used by a tagged or non tagged player among the Freelancers.
As for freelancing terrorists i think is an indefinite no. freelancers are in it for the bunts, terrorists are in it for a cause. I think a freelancer can go as far as to tax other lawful/unlawful players based solely on the fact they are desperate. If they then to continue earning money by doing so then they should switch to a pirate ID and then possibly a faction pirate ID.
The beauty of being a freelancer is that if you aren't into the idea of making another character for a particular faction you want to join, you can always reassign your current freelancing character to join whatvever faction you want.

Speaking of which, have you considered the Pirate ID?
Thanks for the swift reply. I was considering the Pirate ID until I found out you need to have an IFF with it, and that's exactly what I don't want:(

Well, the reason I chose the Freelancer ID is so he isn't attached to any particular faction. However, I am planning on having him be from the IMG and after some kind of incident while mining/escorting miners (still working on that...) he went insane and left the IMG.
On the other hand, I'm not planning on going around and acting like (for example), a Phantom or anything like that. However, my character will engage in terrorist activities such as bombing transports, taking both innocent (citizens) and guilty (pirates) people hostage and asking for something completely random.
Basically, what I'm trying to do with this character is show that terrorism is not limited only to evil people, but good people too. I'm not sure how it will work out, because of the lack of a specific ID, but I still want to at least try it out and see what kind of feedback/responses from players on the server I get.
I think youi're going to have to go with the freelancer IFF, which doesn't rely imply a faction membership. The Bucs, SU and independent Freelancers are hardly a big cosy club:)
Using the IFF would give you the choice of Pirate or Vigilante ID. The Freelancer ID is rather too lawfui for what you're trying to achieve. You'll have to imply the inherent goodness of the character through RP, which from current experience, can be a challenge.

Yeah, I might just have to get a Pirate ID and the FL tag. The Vigilante ID sounded like a god send at first but then after reading it I decided it sounded to law abiding. I kind of want my character to be a balance between good and evil, but I'm not sure if that will work or not at this point.
Short notice the the vigiante rp: It is supposed to be a legal and lawful roleplay with the extension that you can operate in the borderworlds while the police have to stay in their territory.
