People tend to meep around about how bombers should have their anti VHF capabilities nerfed, but its simply people who like to neglect their strafe buttons too much.
As far as I can tell, the bomber was doing a better job hitting the fighter than the fighter was hitting the bomber, because the fighter had to dodge around so much. The fighter wasn't going to kill the bomber without an hour long dogfight, if then.
And it's a nomad in a wraith with a mix of nomads and hornviper guns? The wraith is above average speed however (it's big, fairly easy to hit and has 5 guns, so fast).
Try it in a templar, slowest VHF in game (though, it's easy to SN in joust, but hard to hit outside of joust).
or a Titan, second slowest VHF in game (basically the opposite of a templar, hard to hit in a joust and easier outside of joust).
Also, just to note, the Roc is slightly above average (in duel).
Sindroms you, like everyone else around here participating in this bomber vs fighter argument, have completely missed the point.
1. Even if you keep it in a 1 on 1 duel, it's going to take half an hour or more for that fighter to win. Dodging snacs isnt the problem, it's killing the bomber in a reasonable amount of time.
2. Throw in 3 bombers vs 3 fighters and a capship (cruiser+) - the fighters will not be able to kill the bombers before the capship dies. Fighters have one role in this game - escorting - and they suck at it because they lack firepower.
3. Right now, bombers and fighters are too similar. Look at every other ship class and you'll see huge differences - from different shields to different weapons to different strengths and weaknesses. Bombers are, essentially, fighters with more power and bigger guns.
Bombers do need to be changed, and fighters do need to be buffed. The two ships should be, at first glance, noticably different in nearly all aspects other than relative size.
I stand behind my assessment of how things should be changed... Remove the SNAC, remove all bomber guns, and give each bomber 3-4 torpedo slots and a CD slot, then add in new torpedo types for the bombers to use. At the same time, buff all fighter gun projectile speeds. This lets the fighters kill the bombers more quickly than they can kill caps, and differentiates the bombers from the fighters at a base level - bombers are -only- supposed to be effective against caps.
The serious problem we have been facing is that Fighters as escorts are not effective. Now please let's truly look at this, I want to help. Fighter's are not capable of doiung their role as escort well enough because they are not able to take down the the bombers fast enough. I've played here for a long time and I have a long reputation as being a dedicated Fighter and Bomber pilot and I have become very good at both in a span of over a year. A Fighter cannot chew apart Bomber fast enough to keep the bomber from blowing up their intended target (I'm ignoring the bomber's insta kill ability when in the hands of a pilot capable, I am one of those as is most GMG|, it's ignored because the target of the bomber is not the Fighter). I don't want to get into the target itself, yes some are easier than others but really it is obvious a Fighter can't bring enough firepower to to be an effective escort against bombers as well as......
Now to another very inporatant observation: This applies to Fighter being able to blow up a fighter using an MR. Countless times I have been in group with other escorts and have tried to fend off fighters atacking the transport, no bombers. I find myself taking a long time fighting just one other fighter if that other fighter is also skilled. No way can I defeat a skilled VHF in time before he himself can take down a transport. A Fighter doesn't have the fire power to be an effective escort against fighers.....
It is not a solution to nerf bomber's in any way. If they are too agile for escorts to kil than so are Fighters. What the problem is is that the escorts don't have enough firepower to effective at their job. The Guns of the escorts need to be buffed. This way the escort can chew through the hull of their target, who is NOT targeting the fighter (for instakil or whatever), but the target that the escorts are protecting and resulting in a likely chance that the escort will destroy the assaulter for making the mistake of ignoring the escort.
Now NOTE: The Escort may be either fighter or bomber, let them both continue to carry the same class of forward weapons but let's buff those weapons so that those who ignore the escorts carrying them will be punished severely, if they don't ignore them than we can break it down from that point there and look at how escort groups (mixed ships) compare to escort groups.
Agreed with tenacity, Sindroms, like most others completely miss the point. Its not that a bomber has a hard time hitting a fighter, Its the bomber not dying fast enough to fighter escorts before the bomber kills the cap they're escortng.
