I know it's a silly question, but I just wanted to know is it really legal. Better scanner range that BS licence provides has its advantages.

It is most definitely.. my LABC flew with a BS license for a long time.

If the license value depreciates, then from a pure cost perspective it would be rather cruel to force anyone wishing to downgrade from a battleship to sell their ID and repurchase it later. If it sells for the same as it costs to buy, then it probably should be illegal to fit on a smaller ship.

Just my two cents.

Just note that if you are thinking of saving it till you get a BS yourself the BS already comes with one. But to actually use it permanently on another ship? I don't see why not. Never heard of anyone against it before and I know others do the same. Exploration ships benefit greatly from this. As would any ship that is desiganted as the Commnader of a combat group.

the range (i think) of the BS license is that of the discovery scanner and Adv carfo scanner combined, 10k distance (doesn't count for player ships) and 4k cargo scan range,

about right... it does not worth it.. An Adv.Cargo scanner does the job well.
