Otis powered down his ship, a lovely Luxury Yacht, as the mooring fixture clamped down of his ship. Picking up his bags as he headed to the portal. He though a bit about how he ended up at Roppongi..yet again. What was this? The fourth time he had been stationed on this station? He did love being in Kusari, something about the people, maybe it was in the food? Otis Jethro's mind ran, it was but a few days ago that he engineered the takeover of a small Kusari ship building interest, Renzu Corp. The company makes a pretty popular line of civilian ships, and already has a deal with interspace to sell their ships across Sirius, but for some reason, the leadership of the company seemed unable to capitalize on their market placement and share. Jethro had been watching the company for some time, and had big plans for it.
As Jethro walked out onto the promenade of the station, he saw the familiar sights, and they brought him back... small groups of people all around, eating and drinking at the many pubs and shops, a group of well dressed businessmen passed him on the left, there were two women in the group he thought to himself, they must be from Kishiro. Another group crossed in front of him, long coats, with lots of tattoos? They read as Hogosha all over, against the far wall he noticed a group of old men in suits, they were ringed by a group of women in Kimono's, Samura. All the groups in Kusari were represented her, along with many many of Kusari's young, who take the shuttle up from the Planet to rub elbows with foreigners, the Kusari social elite, and grizzled criminals. Ah, it was good to be back on Roppongi.
Jethro headed to the lift, normally he would be heading for the IND offices on level 45, but today, he was off to the offices of Renzu Corp on level 12 of the station. Getting off the lift, he noticed the cream color of the offices, a short man, with a data pad was waiting for him outside the lift.
"Mr. Jethro, welcome to Renzu, the division heads are waiting for you in the conference room sir. If you would like to follow me?"
With that, the small man turned crisply on his heals and headed down the hallway, Jethro decided he had better keep up and followed after him. Coming to the conference room, the short man opened the door for him, and Jethro walked in. The stark contrast was plain, the room was ornately decorated in full Kusari style, with a long black wood table running down the middle of the room. The table was huge and could easily comfortably sit forty people... there were four young men and one young woman at the table.... Otis knew right then he had a long haul ahead of him.
Otis sat down at the head of the table. For some reason, even though there were only five people at the table, they were spread across the table, with only two even remotely close to each other. It was then that Jethro noticed the name plates on the table, each plate had a division name, Hull Paneling, Propulsion, wiring, avionics, scanners and so on and so on and so on. Looking down the table Otis saw which seats were taken, Nana-Transmitters, scanner algorithms, High Tensile alloys, and well, a couple more he could not see far enough down the table.
"Ok, first of people.....OK...FIRST...OFF..PEOPLE..."
That wasnt working at all,
"OK...EVERYBODY..MOVE DOWN HERE"
The small group rose and moved, very slowly, and obviously uncomfortable toward Otis.
"Now, sit down folk."
The group tentatively took chairs, seeming very conscious of the division name plate in front of them.
"Ok kids, I am Otis Jethro, vice-president of Interspace Neural Net Division and of course...your new boss. Now, why dont you go around and introduce yourself."
Otis could swear he head a pin drop, the room as silent.
"Ok then.....well it seems we have a bit fewer division heads than I had expected. So, this is going to be a bit more difficult than I initially anticipated, but I think if we all pitch in we can get this ship going in the right direction again. So, what I need from each of you is a full report on your divisions, and I am going to need it by tomorrow. So, I have some food hear we can nosh on and get to know each other a bit........"
Before Otis could get done the sentence, all five had left the room. That same small man was standing at the door apparently waiting for him.
Otis stood and walked over to the small man at the door. A Kusari man in his mid to late fifties, slim, professionally dressed, and about five feet in height. The small man began, "Mr. Jethro, if you would follow me, I will show you to your office." Once again, before Otis could begin to walk, the small man was half way down the corridor. Running to catch up, Otis finally caught the small man as he turned and opened a large glass door. Following the small man into the room, Jethro was amazed at the beauty of the room, a forty foot high ceiling, the trim, etched in gold, silver and platinum. Flowing curtains of silk, opening onto a huge window facing Planet New Tokyo. Placed centrally, facing the large window was an ornate oak desk, and against the rear wall, as small wet bar and kitchenette. Otis was amazed by the sheer magnitude of the room, which is to say something, as Jethro is from IND, and IND knows ornate.
Turning around after a few moments to talk with the small man, Otis found him already long gone. That little man had really gotten Jethro curious about him. He walked over to the desk and sat down in the large over stuffed desk chair. Looking at the files on the desk, he began to look through all the status reports from the last month....apparently, nothing was happening...nothing at all. Renzu was in neutral, and Jethro's new goal in life was to kick the small company into drive. His first task he quickly decided was to begin developing a new project. Something Jay Simon had always wanted, a ship that was made of pure profit, and who's looks represent the epitome of wealth and status... The Renzu/IND liner would be Jethro's first major project as head of Renzu, and the first step in that was to find an appropriate engineer to build it.
