Right after The Joker gave ultimatum to Aurelia Silvan, my char's reputation with Zoners went full red (before it, regular Zoner rep was full green and Zoner guard rep was neutral). Let's be clear about this - I don't really mind about that rep change. I'm cool with it. But, I was just wondering...
How come that Rep-change happened BEFORE ultimatum has ended? Cuz, the way I see it and it's kinda logical, that was suppose to happen only AFTER the bombings, not before. Rigged charges were the first hostile act, the actual threat wasn't. Let me explain this even further for those who'd say that threat is a hostile act.
Hypothesis:
Scenario no. 1: The Joker's has red reputation with Zoners before bombs went off, Aurelia complies with the demand and... Bombs don't go off. Why would my char have red rep with Zoners then?
Scenario no. 2: Red reputation again, Aurelia is somehow forced to resign, bombs don't off as before... The Joker didn't kill anyone, just like before. No one died as well, just like in scenario no. 1. Zoners are not angry. There will be no manhunt. Again; Why would my char have red reputation before the event was finalized?
And who might have known... Maybe even negotiations would take place to reach some kind of mutual satisfaction. For the sake of argument, let's just say that Zoners considered the Joker as hostile although he didn't blow up the bases - then why change both reputations? Threat was NOT directed at Guard bases which are in reality impossible to plant bombs on (we all know it's impossible/restricted to dock at bases in Omicron 74). Thus, if any, only regular Zoner reputation ought to be changed, not the guard reputation.
If you make a public message that you're going to blow two buildings, you better believe the police is going to come after you and not wait around until you've bombed the city in order to arrest you.
Having said that, my faction did not issue a rep change for you. I'm not aware that OSI or TAZ did it, so it must have been someone else.
And on a final note, because there was a terrorist act in Moscow not 2 days ago (26 killed, 100 injured), I think that you should have paused the RP before moving on with it.
Bomb threats are illegal, actually concerning "free" speech there are certain things that are illegal to say if it can cause harm to others, like a panic would. In North America if you shout "fire!" in a packed theatre when there isn't a fire and get caught, expect to be charged as a criminal. This, of course, is more severe with bombe threats.
Let's say you point a loaded gun into someone's face & pull back the hammer, threaten to shoot them but not actually pull the trigger right then & there. How is that not 100% hostile towards the person looking into the barrel of a gun?
ProwlerPC - with all due respect, Disco is not North America.
If kid in school calls from a pay-phone and says "there's a bomb in a school", I don't think that whole community, and all the schools as well, makes him immediately threat to society cuz he wanted to skip classes or something.
I'm just saying that was an event which wasn't finished. It was impossible to REALLY know if bombs would go off. No one knew if the Joker was actually trying to make a joke. I was just wondering how come the rep change happened sooner.
Marburg - I agree 100% with you. But ask yourself this - how could anyone know if negotiations were to take place to resolve the situation, making the Joker actually a friend to Zoners later? You see, there are numerous possibilities. Again - rep change happened too soon.
BlueSpawn - I apologize. I really wasn't aware of terrorist act in Moscow which took place. I really didn't know.
North American laws on application of speech is the most leniant example I can give you, try it on other continent, I implore you. The kid calling from a payphone making a threat to skip school does stand a chance of not getting caught but I've seen some caught. They get expelled from that school and charged as a youth offender. If any serious injuries or even death occurs due to the panic then that youth may even be tried as an adult. Threats are serious business in the eyes of any human culture.
Well, you did send out a message to all Zoners with this as the 1st line:
Quote:If that two-faced lyin bitch, Aurelia Silvan, doesnt resign from Chairmans position in next 48 hours, Ill blow up one of Zoner bases. One of your lovely bases will burn brightly if she doesnt step down, people will die, I give you my word.
The way I see it, no matter how thin you slice it, you can't pull something like that & expect to be anything other than an enemy to all Zoners.
I know the guy you play is nuts, but he ain't supposed to be stupid...& it's stupid to think that Zoners will ever forgive, forget & ever make nice at any point after pulling that kind of stunt
Prowler is right. Threats are serious business, especially ones involving explosives.
If you threaten to blow up my home, I'll kill you the moment I see you if I have the opportunity, regardless if it might be a joke or not.
