I am against this /restart stuff.
Why?
There is a simple answer.
Sindroms made a nice tribute video why.
Its a special experience to undock and find your place where you belong on your own.
Gather enough money for your armored transport, visit bretonia and Rheinland.
Fall in love with the place and applicate with a faction there.
In my case it was [RM] back then.
But I dont want to miss my time as an independent trader working my way up, or at least away from manhattan. A place of terror and gazing old men if you have to dance on tables for some credits......
Oh I am getting into RP again!
You want to know what rekindled my interest in "Discovery" (the bit about finding new stuff)?
Making a Nomad Trial, and entering the Unknown and Nomad systems for the first time ever.
If I had to start from level 5 for that, it simply would not have been worth my time. As it was I could /restart as a Hispanic and get myself established fairly quickly.
Ok, it's all well and good to /restart into a house of your choice once your in the "noob" system. But what about Freelancers? Freelancers are a dynamic type of people that can go to ANY house. So if you /restart to a specific house that limits it greatly. Now if you had a /restart freelancer command that set every house to neutral that would be good. That would give people who are a bit lazy a little bit more lee-way in which to explore and develop. It would also be good for established freelancers because then they would be entirely neutral as per their RP (unless they are house specific freelancers then you would use the /restart <insert house> and buy a freelancer ID in whatever house you go to).
Thoughts might be a bit muddled but I think you get the picture.
To the OP: just NO. I still set up my chars without the /restart command because the maps and mapped bases are pretty ****ed up which I personally dont like at all.
I also enjoyed my time exploring the houses and finding the places I like to play, witch all the good and bad experiences that came out of this.
Just keep it the way it is. No need to change it with using an other starting point or even forcing people to use /restart.

I'm still with the isolated system idea...
What about a password they type (password hidden in the server rules somewhere - changed weekly) and it kicks them and moves them to Pennsylvania, so they can do the rest normally?
Hum... I do like the idea of the /restart command to get more options to choose from.
As for a separate start system... that might be a tad to shocking for newcomers to Freelancer Discovery.
As for all those Naysayers:nono:... even if the news of the restart command would show up in the server info broadcasts... you can be sure that there will still be folks who won't read it.
I like both exploring the universe and being able to short-cut some of the tedious setting up in the beginning... especially as there's no way to set up a Zoner with the /restart command... yet
And no... with the new ID restrictions on the Zoner Guard ID and the Rep-Ninja-system on all other ID's... I doubt a /restart zoner command would end up in a Zoner loltrader feast in house space... that or more Zoner BWT's to pirate
I'm all for it. I don't see what people are complaining about. You type in two words, and bam, you have all the lawful stations and systems unlocked, and you can go do whatever in your CSV.
If the lolwutters wont go on the forums to read the rules, then I guess it's their fault.

No, to much lagg as it would have to check every single damn character logged on to see if they have used the command on their account, and check that their in the starting system. Every. 10. Seconds.
