Ok, so I've head idea while I was roaming the streets and my car hit reserve. I figured every car has about 30km before he hits the "running on fumes" and then idea hit me.
Could it be possible to implement something like a timer via FL hook based on ships that simply stops the ship after certain time?
Here's what I had in mind:
Basically we all know that tanking up hight tech things these days like some special naval explorer ships and some damn submarines / space shuttles can't be done by simply bringing fuel to them. They have to be moored somewhere where special equipment designed for that is used to fill them up. Picture a car with a very complicated gas tank, and pump stations as places with tech to fuel the car. So no hand filling possible.
What I propose is implementing a FL hook based on ships that would create a timer every time ship undocks. After the time has counted out (the timer saves if ship disconnects in space) the ship simply stops (or blows up if player desires so - i'll get to this) and it has run into problems. He should dock to restart the timer.
Based on ships this would create alot of variety. For example Light Fighters with smaller tanks could fly only up to 3 hours in space before they have to dock somewhere (remember guys, you dock frequently).
Heavy fighters could get 30 minutes more, gunboats could get an hour more and cruisers up to 4 more while battleships would have some silly things like few days.
Trading ships would also have bigger tanks, based on their size and cargo capacity ofcourse (i'm aiming at kujiras and whales here that dont have big gas tanks they sacrificed it for cargo hold - so maybe three hours as well)
Implementation of this could be simple if FL hook works as I think it does, and timer in game would be something interesting because you could implement a SNAC countdown timer later as well, and things like that.
For example, this would add a new variety to the mining squads, and especially Kusari's mining behind enemy lines.
As for destruction of the ships upon the timer running out, this could maybe simply be activated or deactivated as some players could die in middle of nowhere and have no friends to own them
The deminished credit profit of power trading under this concept is unacceptable, don't tell dusty i get a new ip adress by connecting to my neighboors wireless router
1) if it's dock-based how do I get more if I run out of fuel?
2) this really leaves factions with very few places to dock (Wilde/Keepers) high and dry.
3) Too much work for too little reward methinks.
