I like it, very good ship. I agree with you about the civilian line. Actually there can be thousand of ships with different shape, color, size build by civilian ship-building corporation. In my opinion it makes more sense than saying that only ships similar to the CTE and BW lines are true civvie ships.
Quote: I mean just look at cars today, not every car you see looks the same.
Having only the CTE and the BW civilian line is like saying that, for example, cars not looking like FIAT or Honda cannot be cars so they must be truck lol. I know stupid example:D. IMO the creators of FL were just too lazy and had not too much time to create a huge variety of civilan ships, so they made the CTEs and BW ships only.
Some of those are import some of them are not. There are many more, I would say that don't match the Art work of freelancer 100%. Not all of them are bad, not all of them are good. You're going to get that. I would say this matches a bit more than almost anything on this list of ships. And I would also go as far as to toot my own horn and say it looks pretty damn good, for a side project hobby ship I did in my spare time. I made this ship, I made the texture. This ship is 100% my own, there are not a lot of ships that can say that on this mod.
And there are some really bad ships out there, that this could easily replace. But I guess it doesn't fit well enough. Sorry, next time I make a ship I'll just rip some more textures off of freelancer hit map all and slap'em on there like so many other ships I've seen. Saves me some damn time anyways. With crappy stretched, or squished textures, that don't align properly and take up more then a megabyte of space. It will look like someone botched the texture job on a freelancer ships, but hey the textures look exactly the same as another ship. So we can all be happy.
Whatever, this is obviously not worth my time any more to do it properly. Since, I don't match everyones expectations exactly. No sense in adding a ship that looks like another import.
as for your model....it looks good, has interesting new design ideas that can be incorporated into discovery freelancer... the fact that you can make hardpoints and hitboxes for yourself also means a lot...all that makes you very good modeler.
Discovery mod always was about keeping as much of original FL look and feel as possible and that leads us to the textures...there is more then one way to skin a cat...you mention large texture files that don't fit the ship perfectly...some nice tiling and trim here and there and any ship can be textured with original FL textures...all that can be done even without adding new texture file so actually all you need in cmp and sur files...
Almost same result as you made with special texture can be achieved with using original FL textures, same color scheme etc...
I will type slowly now, because I don't want to make a drunk Post in the Developer Forum.
Yes, there are Ships that need to be replaced. Yes there are Ships that are Imports. Yes there are Ships that lack of decent Quality. I appreciate what you are doing for Discovery, but the Target is to create Ships that fit into Freelancer and are no Ships that don't belong there and are only made to replace the old not fitting Ships that don't fit aswell.
Replacing Ships that are now in the Mod doesn't mean you have to create new Ships with the same Role. You could just use their Slot, create a different Ship, for a different Purpose. For Example, there could be a Shipline for the Outcasts, something like and advanced Scimitar or Sabre, or Switchblade.
