RE: Situation in NY, Feb. 3/4
Dear Admiral Hale,
I understand you to be a fair-minded individual, so I preset you with the following formal complaint in the hopes that Liberty Navy procedures can be reexamined.
Yesterday, aboard my Gateway transport Trafalger, I carried a full load of goods from Bretonia to New York. I noticed while in California, particularly as I proceeded past Mojave to the NY jumpgate, that radio chatter indicated some commotion in New York - apparently, a couple of Xenos were causing havoc and seemed to have taken down several ships. I also noticed on my scanner several Liberty Navy fighers present in California. As I approached the NY JG, I saw off my starboard side the LN fighters in question: four of them, engaged with ONE pirate. I mentioned something to them about the apparent Xeno activity in the next system, but received no response.
Not knowing where those Xenos might be in the New York system, and having an urgent payload to offload at Ft. Bush, I entered New York, only to find the Xenos right on the other side of the jumpgate. Had your pilots merely checked - given the radio chatter and my own warning - they would have likely prevented what followed.
You'll notice my plea for help here - that was directly to one of the navy pilots next door in CA. No response was given, and no assistance came.
At this point, under threat from the Xenos, an independent navy capital vessel appeared called SLICE. This fine vessel attempted to halt the attack as it began, but to no avail.
A long and intense battled followed, as I and my crew slowly but surely (and only barely) made it to the safety of West Point. Only with the help of the SLICE and other brave independents nearby did we not perish at the hands of these terrorists.
Upon reaching West Point, I was understandably agitated. I commed one of the LN fighters in CA - unfortunately, I had no way of identifying rank, so I commed one at random. I'm afraid I was not very polite, and for that I apologize personally to the pilot in question. However, considering the circumstances, I don't believe the response I received was appropriate. After I explained my agitation, I received no further response from your pilots.
Now, Admiral, I am not interested in punishing any individual - that is why I have distorted the pilot's name. But that sort of gross negligence all the way around is inexcusable.
There was no way for the LN pilots in question to know that I am a Knight of the Bretonian Empire, or the former CEO and Chair of a major Bretonian corporation. But they did know that I represented said corporation, and that there was a major incident occurring in New York; yet nothing was done and I received only disrespect.
Thank goodness there were competent, independent vessels in New York at the time.
I pray you will take action on this issue as soon as possible; not punitive action against your personnel so much as corrective action with regard to your procedures and rules of engagement. There was no reason this incident should have occurred, and there was certainly no reason for the complete disregard and dismissiveness by your pilots.
I hope we can bring this situation to a satisfactory resolution.
Whilst the Bretonian Government does not wish to comment on this specific incident at this juncture, the Prime Minister has asked me to release a general statement expressing our continued interest in the security of Liberty space, particularly given the high volume of trade and diplomatic missions passing through New York on a regular basis. Whilst the United Kingdom of Bretonia continues to maintain a very good relationship with the Liberty Navy, we are naturally keen to see that all due steps are being taken to ensure the greatest possible safety of our citizens in Liberty space, particularly in the case of distinguished figures such as Sir Alisdair Buchanan.
Expressing our highest confidence in the abilities of the Liberty Navy High Command to resolve this small matter without further issue,
Lord Charles Canning
9th Earl of Malmesbury
Foreign Secretary of Bretonia

Good evening gentlemen. Fleet Admiral Hale speaking here...
With regards to your complaint regarding the Liberty Navy's conduct in this instance, I would first like to point out that according to the report I received on the incident, there were already adaquate forces on the scene. Looking at this, it seems the reserve fleet already had a fighter, gunboat, bomber and battlecruiser to deal with a threat of two Xeno very heavy fighters. That is more than adaquate, although I can't account for the competance of such forces...
Furthermore, the Primary Fleet forces were in California returning from escorting a Bretonian noble (Countess Tarrant) to the Magellan gate on her journey home from Liberty.
We had already broken off from the conflict you mentioned, and sirius wide law prevents us from returning to deal with the situation, as well you know.
I will however speak with the officer in question regarding the manner in which you were spoken to. Rest assured it won't happen again, however the basis of your complaint being the ack of support from Navy assets in California should be dealt with I hope.

RE: Situation in NY, Feb. 3/4
Admiral Hale,
Thank you for your informative reply. I do recognize Sirius law, and if that somehow prevented your pilots from reentering New York, then I do understand. That is an important piece of information that was not communicated to me by your pilots.
What I witnessed, however, was several deaths in New York after your pilots were already in California. Moreover, as I entered New York, I was accosted by the first Xeno with no other vessel around, i.e., the terrorists were operating at will, unobserved by authorities.
That said, I now understand the situation. I would request that your pilots more adequately communicate in the future, and that they ensure that reserve forces are aware of the situation, including your own pilots' tactical dispositions.
I thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely yours,
Sir Alisdair Buchanan, KBE

//Hey guys - This is all RP. It's not a personal complaint against anybody, so please don't take it that way. Under the circumstances, and I think the indies around me would vouch for this, my RP complaint was pretty appropriate. Thanks for playing along.

No need to cover my name from the records, Sir Buchanan.
My apologizes for being rude, but, as you saw, I was getting fired by that single pirate, while the other 3 ships were damaged for fighting against 3 Rogue Gunboats, it was a moment of stress, I'm deeply sorry for that. I hope that explains why I didn't reply anymore, dodging and talking is not in my list of skills.
However, I'm glad to know that you got saved by Slice.
