What if we were to make a slim ship for this purpose? The reason for that was I was thinking that maybe we can limit the gathering to "You'd have to move around to get said resources" the more speed you have the faster you'd obtain it but for feilds with asteroids if you hit something or something hits you, you'd have to re-enter the command again. We can put the most profitable resources in dense rock feilds and put less profitable resources in feilds with no rocks at all and there you have it. Mining/shooting rocks improves your aim a bit and this can improve your dodging...win?

Thats a cool idea
you could design a ship with some kind of sail or trawler net behind it perhaps ? or a filter on the front?
So you have to move around to "catch" the product.
Although, rather than make it slim ( which would be easy to just let go) you could design it so that if left afk it would catch on asteroids and get stuck ( abit like the massive mining ship does now) and get nothing.
Thus you would actually have to do something ( navigate carefully) in order to get your product?
p.s perhaps a modification of the /stuck command would be able to tell if the ship was moving sufficiently fast ?

Id like to point out that explosive gas clouds do have a hit box (The ones in Sigma-13 do anyway as ive seen the shots hit them)
Can these not be made to drop Gas Commoditys when shot with a special mining laser (some sort of gas stabilisation/containment device, Using similar code to the current mining guns)
If the large clouds are not a viable option how about making Gas 'Rocks'? Small semi transparent gas clouds that can be shot with the gas mining gun.
Actionless accumilation of funds (Which the initial mining idea pretty much is) is not a good idea.

This might lead to more lag/crashes, as those big rocks won't make little explosions and there is never just one person mining when the server is full....I encounter lag when shooting just the small rocks sometimes...

I think we'll stick with the current system for now. Or at least something which requires a least a little more effort than an egg timer and a good book.
I support this idea, not because of the reasons mentioned above(other than friday's post - I want what he wants), but because I believe this could be a way to finally make a working Gas Mining system. I think the GMG is underrepresented in the mining business, and they should have some way of extracting "ore" just like everyone else.
