I have a question regarding flak turrets.... what exactly are they supposed to do and how do they work? and why are the called "flak" when they arent of use to shoot fighters?

Thank you

Pretty sure they make splosions at a set distance in whatever direction you're shooting.

Lots of explosions, in random places.

Meaning the fighter can't dodge them.

however, the range is pretty.... low, and the speed of the projectiles is slooow.... anyone with experience using them care to elaborate his use of them?

projectile speed is ok....
range is "said" to be 1600m, but zoners ones (atleast) works only out to 980m

and this is more of a anti bomber/fighter swarm

making ships like osiris a deadly fighter/bomber hunter with its solaris/flak/razor setup...

one of these can turn the tide for a entire battle. Using 1 capital to take out the shields of all fighters (unfortunatly allies too). making allied fighters able to snac/razor the oponents to death in an instant.

Flak turrets are problematic for two reasons:

1. The real possibility of flakking your own escorts. Friendly fire isn't.

2. If you're in an asteroid field or dense nebula, your flak bursts will often hit small particles and explode next to your hull.

No need to be so offensive. In fact, go lean to read.

The way that I see it, is that he is saying that the flak turrets go off at 980m, not that they go off at 1600m as you are attempting to compare to your 300m.
