So with the last batch of infocards something was attempted. The employ of a new name in the lore of a shipline. Renzu. Basically a small ship building firm which enabled me to incorporate "civilian" ships into the overall lore of Kusari without falling into the ownership trap of Samura/Kishiro.

I think the idea was well received.

I'm wondering if you folks think that there is room in Discovery for this experiment to be propagated. Essentially creating more small companies which have almost zero practical impact on ownership or use of any vessel but provide a little flavor.

Lemme know what you think.

I love Renzu, I think it works really well.

Rather than the Civ or BW line, being made by.... well no one knows. Giving a company name to them makes it more believeable I guess, for lack of better words.

Who makes the Sabre? Who designed it? No one knows, it's just been there, designed by some unnamed people.

With the Renzu ships, you can give them a common theme and a proper backstory.

I can imagine more working well, I like the idea.

Approve.

However, at time we requested our shipline during construction of Baffin, the "Anki" was not a Kusaran ship.

We'll trade you back if we can have license to sell our old tried and true Dromedary on Shasta.

Deal?

Cheers, Renzu-san

The BW line is one which I've been thinking about a lot lately and the one which propagated this thread.

What I like about how Renzu turned out is that there is a lot of interesting story and character investment made into the idea behind the ships.... Without a single infringement upon the ownership of the vessel.

At the end of the day, no matter what you do, it's still a "civilian" ship. You could no more restrict it than you could restrict a starflea.

So in many ways it's make believe, more so than most facets of development around here are make believe, but I feel that it was fun make believe for many.

The main thing that's important to me is that the concept not be perverted and employed as a means of a group attempting to leverage the good name of the company or restrict vessels to parties based upon prejudice or bias. That would put me off.

The idea is great, go for it;

Somehow reminds me of real life car producers, you got the big ones and then many smaller ones with their own style and special flavour.

I can imagine a Rheinland company that designs heavy ships for Mercs, but are generally open to all. Or a Liberty Corp who design generic Transports in the Medium-Large range, with different specialities.

I like the Renzu shipline, a bit of diversity from the standard Hawk/Eagle/Roc. Are there shipbuilders available to build other mini-corp ships?

Yes. Within my imagination primarily.

Make 'em up.

You can't use pre-existing stuff.

Renzu = Civilian = Open
DSE = DSE = DSE

Restrict? Thud man, we've "given" away 6 or more in the last two weeks to deserving Baffin visitors. They seemed quite pleased. However, I'll still trade the Drom.. Baffin would then be all Zoner/BW lines.

I remember when we were doing ship infocards for 4.85, you had thought about a Liberty Company called....NAC? Something about it being headquarted on Denver? But yea, as someone who has put alot of energy into the Renzu rp more recently, I think it's awesome, as I said earlier, I dont nessesarly think it will work everywhere, but I think there are many places that are ripe for it.
