In the darkness of the Omegas a lone transport dropped off a rock. The rock was no less as the infamous Cadiz base, staging ground of the Corsair Empire for their war on the Red Hessians- the lone transport is a Raba armored transport of the Benitez family, carrying a peculiar freight.
On the bridge Trueno Benitez paces up and down, checking monitors, listening to reports of his crew, ever careful. He was nervous what good his freight might bring- he has risen fast in the familia, maybe too fast. The desire to prove his worth to the Empire burned in him. Will the prisoner have valuable information, or will he make Trueno look a fool? Are the wrecked parts of the prisoners ship actually a rare piece of technology or another cheap fare from the coalitions space? Soon he will find out at the hands of Commandante Jose, but Trueno felt unprepared and he hated surprises and uncertainties. Better prepared then sorry. Trueno turns to his eldest hermano:
"Tazo, take the bridge mi hermano- i want to check in on our honored guest."
Tazo just nods, shaking his head about his unruly brother. Trueno leaves for the cargo hold, passing crates with the remeins of the prisoners ship, an Insurgent, unrecognizable now. He brought the plunder of the last days too, mostly jewelries from an unlucky passenger transport but also the odd crate with fine clothes and furniture here and there. Then at the back of the hold he was. A slumped over figure, chained to a hoverbench. Lieutanant Dmitry Dubovik, soldier of the Coalition - unconscious.
How should he begin? Trueno never interrogated a Coalitioner before, only Hessians and Outcasts. Whereas an Outcast often loosens his tongue while going cold turkey, the Hessians were a more indoctrinated and and fanatic lot, yet moldable and trickable due to their normally humble origins. This here was different, Coalitioners are said to be born fanatic zealots to their ideas and well prepared for their capture. What would the coommandante do? Would he try a sly and carefull interrogation like Trueno always favoured, or would he play el diablo to cower him?
Too many questions, not enough answers - and so little time before they arrived. Trueno steps next to the bench, grabs the chin of his prisoner firmly and shakes it around.
-Omega five. So... are you ready, comrade Dmitry? - Dmitry looked on a mirror. As always he saw his big need in sleep and Vodka. But no Vodka on duty, especially this one. - Хорошо. Lets go then.
He came back to control board of his ''Tesla'' and set up a cource to Drezden system. While there was no sign of hostilities or someone else, Dmitry knew that he is watched. Or it was just his imagination?
Its quitly around here... - Dmitry activated engines and went into standart speed.
He was told that Corsairs stopped to fight with Hessians in Hammen hole, untill they will have more supplies, but he must avoid that area. Corsairs defence platforms and guard on Cadiz wont give Dmitry any chances of a safe passage. He picked longer cource and fly'ed into deep south asteroid fields. He thought he wont be found that far, especially in a fighter.
-So far so good. - Dmitry looked on a radar - Cleen! Perfection.
He started to activate cruise engines. Suddenly radar located some target. Scanners showed Corsair typed vessel, but no more information because of big distance.
-What? So far from a Cadiz? What the hell is that?
Just a moment after two more tarfets were shown on a radars screen. They were approaching very fast, not like any of a Titans could do it. Or a Centurions.
-Light fighters! Damn! Im screwed! I wont get away from those... Will have to fight. Твою мать!!!
Dmitry activated special transmitor and sent a signal to Coalition about he got caught into an ambush. But sensors didnt confirmed that signal were succesfully sent.
-They blocking it? Какого хрена!
All attempts to fight though were just impossible. A wing of a light fighters against very heavy fighter. Dmitry knew that he is finished. Few secounds and his thruster were destroyed - no more manuvers. Cruise engines under Cruise Distruptors lock - he wont escape even if missles are over - light fighters in much faster.
-Thats it... I must delete all information from my board computer. - Dmitry activated cleaner. Suddenly a missle hit an energy block and all power were off. - Черт возьми! Not all data deleted.
Another missle were launched - right into Dmitrys cabine. Two more secounds - and he is dead. But he was lucky - last remained energy from his Tesla fueled escape pod engine and activated it. Dmitry was away from a ship when death were so close.
Explosion.
Dmitry woke up.
-It was just a dream...
He opened his eyes and was shocked. He saw unknown man standing over him. But Dmitry recognised him fast - it was a Corsair. More then this - he was from Benitez Family.
- So it wasnt a dream...
Dmitry got up on his feet and looked on Trueno. He smiled and said
As the prisoner tried to rise from his bench, Trueno, still gripping Dimitrys face thrusts him back down, not too hard- yet still insistent
" Stay down gringo, we don't want your wounds to reopen too fast, si? Also ...for you...it is not "Corsair" but senor Benitez, do you understand?"
Trueno leaves the prisoner to fetch a chair and sit himself next to the bench. He seems to ponder for a bit on how to begin, then just shakes his head.
"You. Tell me what was your intend in Omega 5 - you do remember you were there, si? Or do you need introductions, hm? Speak."
Trueno leans back, focusing entirely on Dimitry as if he wanted to puncture his thoughts with a stare. From somewhere a a speaker is audible: "Hermano, fifteen minutes to arrival."
Dmitry returned back to his fetch faster then he could think of it.
- Wounds? What wounds? - he looked on himself - Ah, damn... -That- wounds...
When Trueno asked his question Dmitry realised that nothing good will happen if he says truth.
- What I did in Omega five? A standart patrol. Its not just -yours- system of dead rocks, ''Senor Benitez''.
Dmitry knew that he need to keep an eye on what he is saying to not getting himself into a word trap. Not that he was so easy to, but he didnt had a luxury of an easy talk with his new friend.
Dmitry started to think of his further actions. He havent realised that he could actually get cought. Most likely dead, but not as prisoner.
Trueno watches his prisoner slowly getting aware of his situation, that time is necessary.
"Gringo...don't take me for a fool and spare me this idle chit chat...we both know you lie. Maybe we should set some...condiciones de entorno, si? Let's cut all the lying and scheming - let's both speak free from our corazón, like men should."
He intensifies his stare:
"Now, let's try this again: what does a lone Coalitioner do within Corsair space...without a wingman, without a radar scrambler or a claoking device, but instead in a space superiority fighter stuffed to the roof with armas unknown to us, hm?
You are not an average patrolling soldato gringo...you had another purpose, so tell me! And in case you wondered... you are only alive and somewhat bandaged because i think it necessary for the Benitez to know what you know - mi Commandante might not prove a pleasant and patient conversationalist as myself if you prove to be...well you sure know what i mean gringo - so, please re-evaluate your meager response. Vamonos."
Leaning back in his chair and awaiting Dimitrys response Trueno ponders - will he get to the gist of this one? In that short times notice? Should he have tried another strategy? The Coalitioner seemed neither scared or impressed yet...let's hope this is worth it.
Dmitry listened to Trueno's advise. Saying truth is just impossible, but telling lies is also wont help much.
-Well if you noticed that my ship isnt standart, so its another deal. So you not just regular pirate that thinks only for the best of his own pocket. But do you really so naive? What makes you think I will tell secrets of my Motherland to you?
Dmitry gave a dry smile.
- And I dont afraid you, your ''amigos'' or even Elders. If I will die - so be it. You will never make me talk. My mission is secret one.
Dmitry looked on Trueno with sign of laugh and courage in his eyes.
Truenos face darkens at the jovial response of the prisoner, this is not how he liked it...that one would require some work....with time he didn't have.
"Well...Dimitry, that is your name si? At least you admit you are on a special mission in a special ship. I count that as a progress in our...friendship here. And to answer your question- with honest words: You will spill your secrets and we both know that. The Coalition is not known for being whimps when it comes to interrogatorios and i am sure you know the basic ways of how to break a man, as every man is breakable.
So, listen to more truths here- there are three ways for you to chose gringo. The easy way of the coward is to simply die, here and there, the hard way is to suffer interrogation "techniques" or being drugged to loosen your tongue. OR you choose the smart way and help us in helping you, do you understand?"
The speaker in the room comes alive again: " Hermano, we will start the docking procedure shortly"
Trueno nods, stands up from the chair and grabs a blackened and muffled helmet from somewhere.
"Heed my words and meditate on them, they may safe your vida very soon!"
And with this, Trueno puts the helmet on Dimitrys head and the world turns black and completly silent. After a certain time and a stretch of shaking and being obviously moved Dimitrys world turns back to glistering light with some dark shapes infront of him.
Jose waited with forced patience as his ship docked at the Battleship Fes. Apparently the ship with Trueno and the prisoner had arrived less than 10 minutes previously.
Disembarking from the ship Jose asks to be taken to the interrogation room that had been set aside for the interview with the prisoner. Having read the preliminary reports it seemed likely that this Coalition pilot was likely to be the normal mix fanatic and misguided idealist.
Jose enters the room adjacent to the interview room. It is equipped with a view panel on the wall showing the view of the interview room next door. Turning the small knob on the panel Jose turns up the volume until he can comfortably hear the proceedings.
Judging by the expression on the prisoners face it seems that the prisoner is in a belligerent mood at the moment. Jose smiles as he takes his seat. In the beginning all prisoners are belligerent to their captors he thinks.
Leon wished he would have had more time to prepare for this. Interrogating this one certainly wouldn't be easy. Not easy at all. But then someone would have to do it. After all this was great chance, a great chance indeed. Coalition pilots very rarely get caught alive.
As he exited the hangar area of battleship Fes, he is approached by another Corsair.
"Ah, welcome aboard senor Leon Benitez. Senor Jose and senor Trueno has already arrived. I believe they have already started" Leon nodded to him and made his way to the interrogation rooms.
Leon enters the room adjacent to the interview room, greeting Jose who is already there after having closed the door.
Leon looks through the view panel. He can see Trueno inside the interview room and the prisoner.
"I don't suppose he has said anything, we can use yet?" Leon asks.
Dubovik havent felt himself comfortable when he couldnt see or listen what is going on around him. What he wanted is just to wake up and find himself in a bed with Julia in their room on Zvezdny...
But unfortunatly, this wasnt a dream...
Dmitry opened his eyes when a helmet have beed off from his head. This wasnt too bright in a room where he were, but he still was blinded for a moment or two.
(Черт... What now?) - he thought
When Dmitry had his ability to see again he noticed three persons in front of him. All of them were male and looks like mature enough to be jailers. Dmitry couldnt see their faces yet, but he not even wanted it.
(Corsairs again, no doubt... Well, I wont say a word, lets see what they will ask first...)
Dubovik continued to look somewhere far from his jailers faces and started to prepare a words that he will say. Because he already knew what they will ask him now.
