Caveat:

If the system you are in is owned by the faction giving the orders (officially on this forum-not just by virtue of affiliation,) he or she can kill you for sneezing. Not the case with Mr. Grumpy of course.

Ohhmy i sneeze alot i better do it very quiertly :yahoo:

Back on topic Fly smallarms all you want but calculate some profit loss if you see the cops or bad pirate.

I am not a native English Speaker, so i make grammar errors.
But it annoys me when people make silly comments about that... especially brits who for the most part can't speak their own language let alone anyone elses!

ok, looking at the rules it clearly says that capital ships cannot attack or demand cargo from traders,

7.12 Trader ships are: freighters, utility ships, miner, transports, trains.
Pirates and terrorists have a right to deal as much damage as they see fit before demanding money, but killing trader ship before demanding money is not allowed.
Attacking traders or demanding cargo is not allowed for cruisers and battleships, unless cruisers and battleship belong to Terrorist ID or Phantom ID owner.

as i was clearly trading and although could have been classed as a pirtae but was not asked to drop my cargo

.7 Owners of Military/Police IDs have a right to attack:

- Pirates
- Traders ships carrying smuggled goods and refusing to drop them

and anyway as carrying light arms is not technically smuggling then I should not have been attacked.

I for one belive that I am free to carry arms to pirate bases without threat of destruction by the authorities, obviously I would expect pirates to attack.rob me or the Police to ask me to drop cargo if they are not in a capital ship.

I think this issue has been clarified and I think everybody needs to agree to this interpretation of the rules and sign up to it. Perhaps an admin could add a console message to this effect?

I can see sir_grumpy's point but just trying to make an "honest" living dontchaknow!!!

Wouldn't mind the 5mil back too...lol

Ok ill put this note in, Dont keep asking for the Admins to pay you for your losses,

all is being read and the Admins know whats going on,

next thing that will happen is "i crashed into a planet, i lost my cargo, Admins please give me the money back"

this will never happen, get over it and move on, your point is noted:)

Cheers

If the Player faction RM decides that Light Arms is contraband in their space, it IS contraband. They can and WILL stop you and demand it be dropped.

SF does that as well I believe..

Yes, SA does that. I see the solution as, say, A trader can pay a faction a monthly fee, say ten million clams, and that Trader is licensed to carry certain otherwise-contraband materials. I think some factions did that before, and I think the SF or some such did that with Nomads once...might be nice to see it implemented on a large scale.

I haven't posted in a long time, so I need to remember how! Oh, wait, there we go. Memory restored. Rebooting...

Contraband is any item declared illegal by a governing body. If anyone wants to dispute that claim, go ahead, make my day. Therefore, small arms are not contraband. However, the fact of the matter is, giving weapons to pirates *is* illegal. It isn't an honest living, it's supplying killers.

Ergo, being shot down for selling weapons to pirates is, in my eyes, perfectly legal. The rules, as F Wolf will undoubtedly state, favor the legal side of the law moreso than the illegal side, and this is true. If you are disobeying the rules (or the laws of common sense. Selling something to a pirate? Not smart! Even if it was, say, water, it is still supplying the enemy) you will be punished.

Now, I believe, assuming I read it correctly, that the rules state that PIRATES cannot demand cargo in a capital ship. POLICE and MILITARY can. These two groups can use capital ships. Pirates, technically, can't (for use in pirating, it isn't against the rules to own one if you are a pirate, but it does defeat the purpose of your chosen profession). Police and Military can demand contraband and illegal items. They can detain those who have broken the law.

The law of common sense states "the friend of my enemy is my enemy." If you are supplying pirates (the policeman's enemy) with anything (thereby meaning that you are the pirate's friend), you are the policeman's enemy. It is, using my formula, RP-ly acceptable to fire upon a trader who is doing something illegal.

However, the trader can and should continue using the Trader ID. Why? Because I don't believe we should follow the Trader ID to the word - it states that you can't do illegal things. Traders do illegal things. Therefore, a quandary. How to resolve it? Insert the following clause:

Traders should not do illegal things, but they can.

By creating a smuggler ID, it alerts players to the occupation of the character in question. That would only work in the event that the smuggler was caught. Ergo, a smuggler ID and a Trader ID should be one in the same. It is up to the faction to publicly state the smuggler's identity, much as it is today.

If someone wishes to argue, go ahead. I'm ready. And you're right, Sweden it is. Sorry, I couldn't remember >_<. I was close though... right?

Thats against server rules too... not enough player slots. But yea, if you don't want to get shot by the navy, carrying a lega cargo is a good idea.
