Lavinia stepped off the stool, as if to follow X, but just as she shifted her weight to the floor, energy flowing to the armor to support her frame, the lights contained within her ears flickered out, and suddenly, without the protective effect of the implants, the sound set down on Lavinia like a hammerblow. She stumbled, tripping and falling to her knees, feebly attempting to block out the noise. She clamped her eyes shut, letting out a small whimper, and a film of tears covered her eyes for a moment.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
Kane knelt down and wrapped an arm around Lavinia. He whispered softly.
"Are you okay, Lavinia?"
Seeing her in such a vulnerable and almost hurt position made him inhale deeply and almost tear up. He never expected her to need help in such a way... being almost injured internally...
After a few moments, the lights flickered back on, and Lavinia's whimper ceased. She shakily released her ears, and they flicked forwards, the sound regular again. She slowly opened her eyes, the film of tears shimmering slightly, and she shakily pushed herself up off her side, onto her knees. She shook her head suddenly, blinking away the tears.
"I'm...fine...i'll be alright..." she murmered, her voice slightly raspy.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
Still gently holding Lavinia by the back of her shoulders with one arm, Kane sighed.
"I'm... sorry, I don't exactly... know... what that... little thing... was..." he said softly. He closed his eyes and breathed deeply. "But... if you work... inside... any way similar... to how I do... I think... you need some sleep..."
He shook a bit, not knowing why. He just sat there beside Lavinia, jittering slightly.
Lavinia nodded, and slowly walked towards the couch where Kane and her were before, sitting down with a soft thump. Pretty soon she was unconscious, sleeping and dreaming of one person in particular.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
Kane sat down on the couch and looked at Lavinia. She slept soundly, sitting on the couch peacefully. He smiled. For some reason, a tear came to his eye. He quickly blinked and wiped it away. He closed his eyes and relaxed to try to get some rest of his own.
"Do you know where he is? He should be here by now.."
"No idea."
The two men in cloaks continued arguing back in forth about another person, always looking at the door. When the door to the bar opened, and a man in the same cloak stepped out, they both ran to greet him. They brought the third man to their table, and the chatted for a short time.
X's armoured mass re-entered the bar not half an hour later, in his right hand, he was tightly clenching a small white cylinder, held in a steel frame that was rounded at each end. He looked around, quickly locating Kane and Lavinia, seeing them sleeping, or resting - either way, he decided to wait, just for a little while. Instead, he leaned against the wall, fiddling with the cell.
