Prologue.
"You're a mystery, Eva Jones." McDowell sighed, lazily slumping back in a sofa chair in her house on New Berlin, which was just not big enough for Eva and Eva to sit beside each other comfortably, but they managed to squish in together regardless. The snow outside fell relentlessly, and they had barricaded themselves in front of the crackling wood fire in the lounge space. "I'd like to tell you more about who I was, Eva. I really would." Jones replied. "But there are certain things I know that some people have tried very, very hard to keep quiet. If you knew.. I... I couldn't live with myself if anything ever happened to you." She stuttered, looking across at Eva and brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "It's okay, you can tell me when you're ready to." Eva smiled weakly, giving up her efforts to learn more about the mysterious Eva Jones once again. "I better check how she's doing." McDowell announced, making a big effort to stand up off the seat and groaned a little. She picked her discarded shirt up off the floor and slipped it over her head before proceeding towards the bedrooms. Eva remained seated as she watched McDowell leave the room, a rush of cold air entered the room as Eva opened the door and stepped through, closing it behind her. Massaging her bare thigh gently, Eva sighed and leaned back a little, neither of them had much sleep recently; little Sakura had a fever and was having trouble getting to sleep.
The door creaked open slightly, letting a small shaft of light into the dim room, a shadowy silhouette appearing on the floor as Eva Jones took a limping step into the room and slid the door shut behind herself quickly to prevent the cold air from filling the room. "How is she?" She whispered to McDowell, who was sitting on the bed cradling Sakura in her arms. "Still not feeling too good." She replied. Eva sat on the bed next to Eva and placed her hand gently on Sakura's forehead, she could feel her forehead was on fire. Sakura opened her eyes up slightly and looked up at her, muttering something weakly that resembled 'Eva.' Jones picked Sakura up off of Eva's lap and cuddled her for a moment before laying her down in bed and kissing her forehead softly as she pulled up the covers. She glanced at Eva quickly, then looked back down at Sakura, and began to speak a bed time tale.
