What? Did she hear right? Johnny was either being a perfect artist or his memory was indeed flawed. Who'd make such a subtle joke in such a meaningful situation? No, but it could not, it may not... Layla was petrified and stared into his eyes in dismay. "J- John.." She whispered at very low and frail voice. "It is me.. your-" Her hands felt as if they were put in water cold as ice, her eyesight was blurred with a glassy layer that covered her cornea. No chance her vocal cords would drop another word in the next moments. The lump in her throat was aching hard and was impossible to be removed.
John looked suprised a bit. What the hell was going on? "Do... I know you? Don't think so darling." He stretched a bit. "Who the hell would come here and mourn over me in bed? Oh yeah, I am beautiful!" John then looked at Layla with a serious expression on his face. "If you ever thought us two would ever...ummm... I guess I'll just shut up, or I will have to divorce once again."
The doctor heard this conversation, and stepped in. "Looks like that completes your memory tests." John raised his head at the doctor and asked: "And?""You're totally trashed. Looks like your behaviour returned to old days, most probably. I am not sure if you will ever be an Admiral of the Armed Forces again." John's eyes flew out of his skull. "Admiral? Armed Forces? Did I ever apply to Armed Forces?" Terrified, he lies back into his bed. "Please explain me what is going on. Who I am? Where am I? Why don't I remember anything? Why did you just tell me I was an Admiral of the Armed Forces?" After a period of silence, he finished. "I blame Kusarians."

A piteous whimpering sound emitted from Layla, who now glared in dismay in John's direction... the flame had ceased to exist. The powerful flame of love for John deep inside Layla, forfeited, extinct, crushed. The greatest source of power and hope for Layla was now lost.. forever, seemingly. She slowly took a few steps away from his bed, still staring determinedly into his face, a face of the unfaithful, gruffy, despicable man Layla's husband used to be. The scaffold which had been jiggling for months collapsed in this right moment. Everything they had built up crashed. Layla turned round very quickly and dashed out of the room with an incredibly unhappily sounding howl.
John didn't say anything. He was quiet. The doctor came closer to the bed to check John's physical status. Clay was curious who the girl was, or more exactly, why she ran away. "Who was that lass?""She visited you every week since you have been hospitalised. And now you have just kicked her out. Your own wife.""Oh, are you kidding me?""No I am not.""My wife? That... ummm... eh? Really?"You'd better be quiet and sleep a bit now."

She sat huddled next to the door in a corridor and didn't care about the curiously glaring nurses who walked by. Her appearance resembled a poor pile of mud, her curly hair covered her face which was supported by her knees. No chance she had ever felt more miserable in life, her mood had arrived at the very bottom line... it could only go upwards from now on. She kept whining and wailing for quite a while, just the time she needed in order to realize and process the facts about John's mental state of mind and the impact of it on her future life.
Layla's whimpering was gradually getting more silent until she picked herself up, rubbed her eyes, sniffed a few times and entered room 52 again.
As Layla entered the room, she saw John sleeping. The doctor was discussing something with a nurse. The moment he saw Layla, he interrupted his dialogue, and walked to her. "He didn't mean to make you suffer. How could he? Right now he thinks he never applied to Armed Forces, that he has a girlfriend whose name he does not know, which actually reveals an important part of his life. It looks like he had to pass a great change when he decided to apply for Armed Forces." After a period of silence, he continued. "And who knows... Maybe it will end well. Maybe he will fall in love with you again, though... With his current behaviour, I don't know. He is behaving like a drunk bastard."

Slowly having gained control over her feelings and generally being more calm, she carefully listened to what the doctor told her and nodded from time to time. The doctor then walked off, Layla took a seat on the stool next to John's bed and gazed at him An innocent expression lay on his face, just like a little child who had done something he shouldn't have done and was then reprimanded by his parents, sent in his room and had fallen asleep, she imagined. She didn't know why she had such a picture in mind, seeing as she actually had quasi no dealt with children. It felt like looking after a child rather than seeing her husband after a long time. Did she need to educate and raise him now? Or perhaps simply remind him of important things he had forgotten but were still somewhere in his mind?
Layla looked exhausted, she would wait for Johnny to wake up, though.
Johnny woke up in half an hour. He saw Layla next to his bed, and sat. "Oh, it's you." He chuckled. "They told me I am married to you. Huh, insane. Would you believe it? I don't think so." Layla was just about to say something, when John spoke. "I already have a few girlfriends. I don't need another one." He sighed with relief. "I am glad none of them will slap me up."

It took Layla a huge amount of self-control in order to refrain from punching her fist in the stupid face of this cheeky moron. She ignored most of John's babbling and stared ahead, seemingly at nothing. Why, why for the love of everything she believed in had she deserved this? Plunging from utter felicity to deepest misery...
And then she suddenly came up with a new goal: to find out what kind of virus had infested her husband and to work on re-establishing his old state again. Mourning and whining would only depress her more, and she genuinely felt too young for falling in such a disgraceful hole already. Layla needed new objections in her life. No matter what it may be, if she wanted to achieve something, she had always succeeded. This required a change of attitude though, from a lovely wife to a patient therapist. A role she really wasn't into. "Just sleep a bit, you need to gain forces again." Layla sighed deeply and started wandering around the room with her hands in the trouser pockets.
John looked at her with anger. "You are not my mum, alright? And I have slept for years, if you did not notice." He hated being ordered around. It was a huge blow for his ego. "Leave my room." He pointed at the doors, looking at Layla. "You are someone who should find someone who can help with your mental strangeness instead of wandering around thinking that I am your husband, or so they say." He growled, looked around a bit. Then he saw the big red button. He pressed it and said: "Get me some Whisky."
