We are not the only server around, and it's simply not feasible to expect the developers to change stuff because of say, a weekly battle. All of us have lives, girlfriends (maybe), work and other commitments we need to focus on before moding a game online for free.
However, if for example, you wanted to work on the battleline between Liberty and Rhienland, it would not be too hard to have a battleship from each side move back and forth between the middle of Hudson for example and back to their respective jumpgates depending on who won the weekly battle.
So, for example, if Liberty won the first battle, a stationary Dread would be moved to the middle of the system and a stationary RH Battleship would be moved to the jumpgate, as if beaten back. Similarly, the opposite can occur.
The reason I suggest something like this is because it is relatively easy to move a base within a system to new co-ordinates (think 40 seconds).
However, looking at adding factions/removing factions... it's difficult at best. And how would we decide how to change things? PvP abilities? I swear we were an RP server. RP abilities? Then the person with the best spelling, grammar and story telling gets what they want. Admins decide? More work for them!
It's a difficult position. My personal suggestion summed up is to have small changes perhaps, by either giving developers more power, or having Admins take on more responsibilities. Individuals RP (like for example Mon'Star) should only be taken into account if they are leaving a lasting impression on the server. I haven't seen Mon'Star ingame for over a year now, but everyone still knows him.

the battleship idea is a woosy way of saying you dont want any dynamics.
The mod does not need to be updated, you guys love RP so much RP YOU LOST THE SYSTEM!
You can't expect this many players, each with their own level of intelligence and maturity to be responsible for each other. Most will simply want to alter the mod as they see fit, in the ways where they'll benefit the most from it.
There has to be a line, a line which states the control of higher authority of a group of responsible players who think for the community. The group is currently known as the admins and devs. Of course, few agree with their ideas all the time. Therefore community involvement should be increased in order to take in the wishes of the masses and handle them accordingly to enrich the experience with the mod.
This is no easy task and we're constantly trying to improve it.
A short summary - a group still holds power over the course of the mod, but they'll have to listen more to the crowd who play it.

in this mod we have oorp conflicts, for example outcasts would not siege manhattan and take the entire system. However, maybe omicron eta could change hands in roleplay between corsairs and outcasts, or kappa could change hands between BHG, Order, and nomads, and corsairs in rp.
What would you think if you were the weaker faction?
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.

in FL similair thing would happen.
And you want to destroy the variety that this community has worked so hard to create.
I'm fine with fluctuations of power between factions, but wiping one off the face of the mod is unfair and counter-productive.

masternerdguy, stop comparing Discovery to EVE. In a world of 55,000+ players, sure. It's damn easy to change faction or whatever they call them in EvE. But in this roleplay environment, when someone has put time, effort and their space money into a faction, when they've watched this faction grow only to have it crushed; not through their own failings, but because some people are better at mashing WASD and holding their cursor over a red X. That's vastly different when your playerbase is capped at 199 in the server at once.
It's easy to change in EvE because there is just so many groups
