If you happen to follow this link - http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4040 - you will find the rules of the DiscoveryGC server. If someone violates one of those items, then it is a situation where we on the administration team might need to get involved.
Now, if you follow this link - http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=32168 - you will find the Laws of the Houses of Sirius. While these sound incredibly impressive - those are role-play items only, and we aren't here to enforce these.
The Zoner No Fire Zone is a law, and not a server rule. We don't really care from an admin point of view whether or not the big bad pirate comes up and shoots you while you're sitting next to a Freeport. Did he roleplay first (rule 5.2) and make a demand (rule 6.6)? If so, we're perfectly fine with that.
The same reasoning applies to all house laws, and carries on to ID's as well. For example, note this line from the Ageira ID: Transporting gate/lane parts is not sanctionable if your ID does not say you can lawfully do so. It just means that there may be in-character consequences if you are not lawfully allowed.
So if you see a Freelancer flying around with a Firefly full of gate parts in Liberty space - tell the Liberty authorities, not the admins.
This reminder is being brought to you due to (a) several recent sanction reports that shouldn't have been filed in the first place and (b) a bunch of green messages we've received in game that we shouldn't have received in the first place.

Agmen, the problem as you wrote is that many people around actually don't know the difference between RP laws and server rules. May I suggest to add it in the server reminders (the orange messages to be clear)?

I think the main problem here is that some is some ID-s differentiate trading - smuggling, lawful - unlawful actions. Thou I understand the principle, I also see why can someone read the current wording as: 'He transports lane parts without permit - that means he smuggles - that's an unlawful act not permitted by his ID.'
@Evangelist: I'd like to point out I've never had anyone sanctioned for carrying Gate/Lane parts. I hope that was just an example. However, technically, hauling them would be illegal, but I don't care for such details. FR5 is there for a reason.
And: Yes, this should be added to the server reminders.
It was just an example for sure. I was pointing to two lines on IDs what's purpose I don't understand, and causing that confusion. I have a feeling that no-one ever got sanctioned for smuggling with an inappropriate ID, thou it's wording suggests that everyone does so is in ID violation.
I always shrugged about that, but that thread shows it causes some headache.
That was a good idea, Thade, and I have modified the in game messages to reflect that.
As far as the 6.10 violations - if someone is blatantly violating their ID, then we'll do something about it. But this primarily is a result of seeing several sanction reports because someone was violating an in-game law, not the server rules. There are role play reprecussions, but don't involve us...

So are all the sentances on an ID considered "laws" or are they all "rules" that should be followed?
If I can carry Lane/Gate parts without an ID that allows it, can I then fly a Cruiser on an ID that does not?
I think it's a bad mix to have both of them on the ID. If it's not against the server rules, it should not be on the ID in my opinion. Let their respective official factions post that sort of thing in a law thread.
