::steps in to attempt a wee bit of damage control by putting on his uber spiffy diplohat::
Thanks for the heads-up on the ships status Jinx; at least now we know what's up with it...& I'm sure that I speak for all of us that like to play Gaians when I say that each & every one of us deep down appreciates your hand in creating a Gaian aesthetic by creating the Gaian GB & building on that style with the fighter. thank you very much:cool:
If Seth can make it work, we would love to see it in the next version & if not .86 then maybe .87
I know that you don't see the potential for Gaian growth beyond what they are as I & the rest of the NLH do, but the Gaians being one of the future exiles & being herded into isolation allows for some major growth for the faction beyond being perpetual doormats they've always been & having a fighter would do alot to draw more people in.
I really like this ship and thus hope I am able to get one in 4.86!
' Wrote:Unioners are as small as Gaians and get Fighter and Bomber
I'd say they might be smaller. Gaians have lots of support from various places and all while the Unioners don't, but then DiscoGaians and vanilla Gaians are worlds apart.
' Wrote:its not like the faction enjoys a lot of popularity anyway.
Dear honoured Jinx, could you kindly remember me since when popularity had anything to do with the ship types a faction could fly?
As far as i know, the Unioners also weren't that popular at the time they got their fighter, and now it's rumoured they get a full line.
In a brilliant tactical movement, i charged backwards.
dont take it wrong, marburg - i d really love the ship to get in - and the gaians to grow. - but i still say "you don t deserve the ship" - however - if you work on it - the NLH "deserves" to grow - as its directly related to the work.
no matter if the NHL grows or not, - it doesn t change that i d like the fighter to be in.
and i ll give seth karlo a nudge every now and then.
soooo - maybe you can take the ship to a good use IF it gets in - i sure will.
@argonaut:
errr.. i never said popularity has anything to do with it. - i said the gaians are rather small and might not need it. - when almost no one plays a specific faction, there is the idea that its not really useful to make a ship for those two or three players, unless they ask for it ( on request ) - since there is no request / or has not been - but only an offer - i think i can justify saying that there is little need when there are hardly any players.
if you turn it around - a plentyful faction might need ships ( if they have no ships yet ) - cause more players will benefit from it.
of course - unless you say that new ships attract more players, which can easily be backed up by statistics. ... but i m not sure if the claymore gunship has attracted more gaian players - have you got any statistics about it?
and again - that has nothing to do with getting the ship or not, cause that is purely up to the technical issues.
First of all, a massive thanks for the effort you've put into the fighter, as well as the Claymore. It's one of my favourites, and a choice of several other gaians and allies.
If it's technical issues you're dealing with, then alright. If you lot manage to fix it and pass it into .86, then hats off to you, it will surely give the gaians a new light of hope and strength, especially with the changes going on with the war and the new system. It would fit into the concept of fleeing into the new system, licking our wounds and rebuilding our infrastructure, manufacturing a new fighter in the seclusion of Faroe in the provess. That's my own view on it, of course.
If it doesn't reach .86, well no matter, we'll move on anyway.
The Vanilla Gaians faction was underdeveloped as it was, the Disco Gaians gained a few more bases and a gunship, but we could be still considered being behind the others. However, getting a new ship always brings a few peeps to the faction, whether in large or small pieces. We are small, yes, but that does not mean we can not get a chance to prosper.
But, as I've said, if it's technical issues, all we can do is hope, then.
' Wrote:So we don't deserve our own fighter because we don't want people to join? Where is the logic in that? You're limiting us because you think we should be little and have nothing?
Since when did your opinion on player count mean anything to the rest of the mod?
You also made a gunship. Why are we worth a gunship, but not a fighter?
Shagohad, the ZONERS don't even have their own fighter line, and we have gunboat, exploration cruiser, dessie and 2(!) battleships, not to mention the Whale.
That said, I'd definitly like to see the Gaians get this.
Be kinder than necessary, because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Considering that *nearly* every other unlawful faction got their own non-civilian shipline (except for LWB and the Bundschuh, and even then I saw once a Bundschuh fighter around here) why not the gaians?
The ship's great, and if it can make it in time for 4.86 then all the better.

If Seth doesn't get the hitbox done, I can do it. I seem to have relatively good luck with hitboxes, haven't had any complaints from the ones I've submitted so far.
new stuff in general generates a quick burst of players trying out this new stuff - but it doesn t really bring long term players - not when the roleplay background of the faction doesn t suit those players.
and new stuff and excitement wears off quickly.
the only way to really get long term players is by either:
- offer exciting, ever-changing ( to keep it exciting ) roleplay ... or
- ( the bad way ) offer overpowered equipment
the first option attracts RPers, the second one attracts pvpers. ( which doesn t mean that overpowered equipment does only attract pvpers - it can also attract RPers - but RPers would be attracted anyway in that case - the stats are just another bonus )
introducing the gaian GS hasn t increased the gaian playerbase compared to 4.84 from what i can tell.
