And I just posted in a poll that Disco gets my vote. To stay, that is, regardless of Server problems.
You want to change the Zoner Infocard? I then have two choices: Change the TAZ's affilliation, or say "Ciao, it's been fun."
Not an option. I've invested a crapload of time in my RP, both ingame and on these bloody forums. Now I'm basically being told that I've been ridin' the gravy train?
Not likin' it.
This is accually what makes me want to vote for disco over and over, we have a vocal, active community here and thats what makes it specai. I'm sort of annoyed that you would make a comment like that, when you are normaly so active in these dicussions. When you make valid comments about a topic, do people say, "ah that Mal, thats the reason I dont like disco?" I doubt it, and I think you should refrian from doing it to others.:(

I didn't say I didn't like Disco, bud. Nor do I mind folk discussing how Zoners behave...
' Wrote:So I'll take these one by one,
First - it's funny you should use Xenos as your example as they are the one group of people not welcome on Freeports.
Second- Again we are assuming that the Zoners are a large- tight knit monolithic organazation. Diffrent zoners react diffrently to difrent situations.
Third- All factions need the zoners more then the zoners need them? I cant see how that is possably so simple, Houses could and corporations would accually do better without them in the mix.
Last- as to your final poiont about pirates just "gettingf the best guns," I'll I can say is bugger off, any good pirate on disco(and there are lots and lots of them) is using in RP weapons and if not, they get sanctioned. It's this kind of idiocy that really bothers me. And making a comment like that without any proof, is basicly a flame of all pirates. I wish you had your ships in your sig, cause you'd meet my eagle with level 9 guns to show you we dont need the top weapons to deal with traders like you.
First - only two factions in vanilla that are neutral to Xenos are Zoners and IMG. Despite that infocard for Xenos doesn't say that now, empathy and reputations are still neutral....even better..i have two Xeno guard tagged chars and both have Zoners and IMG full green, without any rep hacks....(possibly cause numerous BHG i kill)
Second: I agree...Zoners are not the house with perfect internal communications. What is good for one zoner doesn't need to be good for another one. I think that Ames research station in Kepler cares more to be good with Xenos then with outcasts, or that Corfu in Theta base tries to be good with corsairs more then with liberty rouges. Maybe matter of pure logic and actual conditions in which they maintain nautrality.
You can twaddle on about what Zoners should or shouldn't be all you like.
Well It's good to know your done, and thanks for your approval to continue the conversation.
I'd like to point out that the problem really isnt with the zoner factions but independent zoners. Rarely do I see a TAZ or ZR trader in the inner systems, far from freeports, it's the independent doing runs like NY to LD-14, a route that no zoner would ever run in any sense of RP. I am not speaking of zoners running edgeworld routes, that seems to be within RP to me. It's the "others" I have a problem with.

First - Even the Xenos need associates. Their food, their ships, weapons.. All of it generally comes from factions like the Zoners. Xenos would be welcome on a Zoner base if they aren't causing trouble. That's what Neutrality is.
Second - In everything I've seen in-game, the Zoners have always been portrayed as being a large society of diverse individuals with similar interests (whether it be profit, exploration, or simply being able to lead a peaceful, productive life). You're right when you say that one Zoner would likely handle something differently than another, but that still isn't to say that they're less influential or powerful on-the-whole. It only means you won't see them assembling armies overnight, and that's all.
Third - Perhaps not all factions, but the majority do, yes. Naturally, Rheinland and Liberty (aswell as other houses like Bretonia and Kusari) probably don't really need the Zoners for anything. Other factions like the Rogues, the Xenos, Outcasts, and so on.. All of them need the Zoners alot more than the Zoners need them, because the Zoners will always be able to offer them things that they can't get anywhere else since they virtually kill everything they come into contact with.
Fourth - This last bit really proves why people are always so eager to jump onto the flame-a-pirate bandwagon. You guys always walk into a thread moaning about how everyone else is OORP when in reality the only thing you guys ever do for the most part is say, "1 mill or die." Use whatever guns you want as it has no real bearing on your roleplaying abilities, but as long as I continue to see pirates camping jumpgates and jumpholes mindlessly demanding credits without any real dialogue involved, I'll always continue to view most of them as simply lesser in that scale. It doesn't matter what you fly or what gear you use, but if you're acting like a 12 year old brat trying to play it off as a "serious" pirate character then you seriously can't expect anyone to hold any sympathy for you when it falls through.
This is quickly turning into a mudslinging contest, so.. This'll be my last post here.
PS: I play two pirates too, just so you know. Only calling things as I've seen them, from both sides of the line.
and here we go, back to the "1 mil or die" argument. First off, some pirates do this, I do sometimes, but it's just to get the demand part of the rules out of the way. It's damn hard to type in satifying RP diologue and try and stop someone at the same time. I DO HOWEVER begin to rp once I have forced the trader to stop( or killed him:)). I have FA and Corsair pirate characters, and when I pirate someone, and talk about my causes, and ideology of my group. Not everyone does it, but on the same level, I see very few traders who conform to what you think is RP. Usualy it goes, pirate fires and gives "1 mil or die" the trader runs untill he knows he's caught, then "ok. stop" "I said stop" , pay the tax, and move along with some generic disparaging remarks on both sides. So neither the pirates or the traders are blamless, which makes the "1 mil or Die" argument mute.

Howdy folks, feel a bit like the neighbor poking his head into a bit of a domestic argument, but here goes.
I'm still rather new here, but from the POV of the outsider looking in, it seems like the issue here isn't really so much that people are taking affront to the way that TAZ is conducting its business, if anything TAZ has been heralded as being the standard to which zoners should be holding themselves. The folk putting the work to earn the lofty gifts granted by being a zoner.
Then you have every singing nancy running about with a store bought 'ZOMG don't shoot ahm a zoner buahaha' type tag, which is cutting into the fun time of the people who deside to fire up their internet spaceship game.
I could go out and buy one right now, maybe I just wanna run diamonds to Tokyo all day long for my pew pew character. Not good RP, but I'm sure it happens.
So, seems like a trouble between those folk who put in a bit of effort to make good on the Zoner credo and reap the generous RP and practical rewards that follow and those unregulated folks who might be on that same track, but might be trying to ride that gravy train that Mal brought up.
Thing is, seems to me that when people come around to play the game and they see the parade of zoner tags floating on by, they're just going to start shooting, and then everything's going to fall down.
Solution? Maybe a bad one, probably a bad one, but it might be that a {TAZ} or similar tag at the end of the name might add the weight of legitimacy to what seems to be otherwise an abused super trader ID.
