No more show me the nav map in ship sale!
Okay... its not a big deal. There is more then sufficient informations already available, Still good addition for people with limited tool, or loving the very game interface.
Good idea!It would be only fair for player to transfer his own maps from one char to another...
But selling maps though...not sure about that...big part of this game is exploration,yes?
Selling maps would take that away...maybe as an option...
I got two chars with almost full map,got that from exploring,it was and still is fun...selling maps in a open market isn't exactly in the spirit of this game...?Or maybe i am wrong...

What would stop the person you just sold your map to from selling it to someone else?
For those of you who think it is oorp to sell maps, why? Knowledge is power/credits. If you were just starting out wouldn't you buy a map to show you where to go?
When you travel in RL if you do not know where to go to you not buy a map? Or do you just travel in the general direction you wish to go until you either get lost or arrive at your destination?
I like it. I think you should be able to sell it as often as you want, but make it so that if you were not the originator of the map you could not sell it.
ex. Trader A sells his map to trader B. Trader B cannot sell that map to another player. Maybe just to use on his other characters.
I only thought of this as a way to re-create the map that i have on the other characters: saves a bunch of time of 'im just flying over here to get the jumphole in my navmap'
but it seems that this thread has been polarised into:
1. i like the idea of addmap
2. i do/dont like the idea of map-selling
making addmap will allow map-selling unless we put in a block to it (maybe based on ID: i.e outcast can only sell to outcast, cannot sell to IMG), or maybe something more sophisticated via FLhook.
hmmm: maybe can ONLY sell maps if you have a MAPSELLER'S ID and are in PENNSYLVANILLA???

it cuts down on alt-tabbing
no more showing the map in ship sales
in RL we buy maps, we can also buy locations of jumpholes, base information from NPCs in the bar

each character should be separate, each with its own hopes fears and experiences.
mapsellers would flood NY, its already bad enough with weaponsdealers and other ooc-spewers
no more exploration for the fun of it

im completely impartial to the whole idea of map-selling, i just wanted addmap to create new characters faster. i submit to the whim of the community on this one.
Sorry about that Coin. I thought selling the map is what you meant. However, I had the same idea over a year ago. Where you could give your map to another one of your characters so you would not have to always explore. Most people wanted it. I believe what we got out of it as a community was the map you get on a /restart.
Factions would be able to transfer route maps to new employees.
This wouldn't be game-breaking at all, merely a more convenient method than alt-tabbing. (Safer, too >.<)

@ seafalcon. this transfers the data that you already have onto a new char. it costs money. it can only be done a few times from each char, and the new map can't be sent on to anyone from that new char (a new wrinkle i just thought of)
mapsellers.... not sure about dem. lets get this in game first and THEN see if they work, mmkay? but there is a real potential of RP here, not only mapsellers but also transfering maps to new characters.
Freelancer companion? dunno what that is at all, honest guv :unsure:
FLcomp is oorp, and kinda defeats the purpose of the exercise. being able to say 'well done, you have joined ind, here is the code for your new ship' and the new ship has the bases on it.... win. the new player would then be able to go off and trade/whatever, without needing an existing member to hold their hand.
this could be a bit of a bonus for factions who are low in activity levels too
I'm for it is so annoying sometimes when You make new ship for same character and You need to look for that one JH and You wonders.. that was up right corner or below left.. on the plane.. no no that was above plane... frack where is that damn Jumphole... Wikipedia Show You Coordinates and that's it and if You play in widescreen mode that really can mess your map to so I my opinion :
